Facilities Management is an integral element of the Business Affairs team and serves to create, maintain, and continuously improve the William & Mary physical environment to enable excellence in teaching, research, and public service. Position Summary: The Urban Forester is responsible for providing urban forestry management services to the university through cataloging, monitoring, and planning for a safe, healthy, and dynamic urban forest canopy.Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Plans, implements and executes campus-wide tree maintenance and relevant vendor contracts. Identify and secure funding opportunities for project implementation through collaborative partnership development and grant writing. Provides integrated pest management (I.P.M.) and chemical-related reports Conducts arboriculture-related and storm response training. Coordinates vehicle/equipment repairs and evaluates and tracks arboricultural equipment related to PPE across the Grounds & Gardens department. Conditions of Employment: This position is designated as essential to the department's operation and will require reporting to work when the University is officially closed. Incumbents will be required to participate in the Facilities Management "on-call" program and duties will include on-call/standby on a rotating basis. Required to obtain and maintain a valid pesticide license from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs within 12 months of hire. Required to obtain a valid Tree Risk Assessment Qualification certificate and Earthmoving Equipment Qualified certificate within 12 months of hire. Required to obtain and maintain a GIS certificate in 12 months of employment. Required to obtain and maintain aerial lift certification and aerial lift rescue certification in 12 months of employment. This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor. Essential Designation: Yes

Required Qualifications: Education and Licensure: Bachelor's degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Driver's license and two years of driving experience. Ability to obtain a valid pesticide license from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs within 12 months of hire. Ability to obtain a valid Tree Risk Assessment Qualification certificate and Earthmoving Equipment Qualified certificate within 12 months of hire. Experience and Competencies: Knowledge of general urban forestry maintenance practices and procedures, and appropriate chemical usage related to the arboriculture field. Demonstrated ability or experience to perform tree inventory, data collection, analysis, statistical reports, and narrative development toward scientific-based resource management planning and maintenance of the urban forest. Demonstrated ability or experience to develop a program with proper resource management in a closely related field. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of routine maintenance on landscape vehicles, equipment, and tools. High-level computer proficiency. Experience using GIS related to arboriculture or forestry such as ESRI products, and similar inventory/collections management software. FAA sUAS Remote Pilot certified. Advertised Pay Range: Up to $70,000, commensurate with experience.
Advertised Pay Range Statement: All hiring rates are commensurate with relevant experience up to the advertised amount considering internal alignment. University Salary Range: U10
