Attachments Job Description : POSITION TITLE: CROSSING GUARD REPORTS TO: TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 403 GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Performs responsible human support and protective service work in stopping and directing traffic in conjunction with the moving of children to and from school; does related work as required.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, and walking swiftly; mobility in movement and stature; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for peripheral vision, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside
environmental conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: Assisting children with crossing the street while going to/from school. Stops and controls vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely; Controls children using the crossing to assure that they conform to traffic regulations; Takes appropriate action with children who fail to cooperate and reports such action to immediate
supervisor; Reports motorists who fail to observe safe motor vehicle operation in school crossing zone; Checks traffic signals for proper operation; reports malfunctions; Directs traffic when necessary; stops traffic to allow school bus to enter and exit school property; Direct street crossings for parades and other special events as needed; Performs related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of traffic regulations; general knowledge of school locations and traffic patterns; ability and willingness to work in inclement weather throughout the year; ability to follow oral and written instructions; dependability; courtesy; tact. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
