Responsibilities
• Provide first line supervision of nursing services• Assume responsibility for staffing and care of patients within a unit• Supervise and direct activities of subordinate nurses engaged in quality assurance, infection control, and utilization review activities• Receive physicians' instructions and ensure orders are transmitted to other units• Oversee delegation of nursing and therapeutic procedures• Assess patients' physical conditions and behaviors• Review nursing plan of care for all patients within a unit• Administer medications and perform medical tests as needed• Provide specialized nursing care• Participate in the design and conduct of special research projects• Develop and oversee implementation of training programs• Maintain records of employees' participation in education programs
Requirements
• Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state• Three years of professional nursing experience• Bachelor's degree in nursing (substitutes for one year of experience)• Master's degree in nursing or public health (substitutes for one year of experience)• Doctorate in nursing or public health (substitutes for two years of experience)• Specialized degrees less than a doctorate (substitutes for a maximum of one year of experience)• Specialized degrees (substitute for a maximum of two years of experience)
