Its designation as the State Science Center of Kentucky in 2002 underscored Kentucky Science Center's history of reaching all audiences through its mission to DO SCIENCE in ways that are engaging, educational, and entertaining to inspire a lifetime of learningJob DescriptionThe Kentucky Science Center is seeking seasonal Camp Technology Teachers with an enthusiasm to "Do Science!" utilizing technology for our Summer 2024 School's Out Science Camp program. As a Camp Technology Teacher, you will have a focus on teaching our Summer Camp themes that are specific to technology, including but not limited to: Minecraft™, Roblox™, coding, and LEGOrobotics camps. As a Camp Technology Teacher, you will ensure that campers experience an engaging and fun learning environment at the Kentucky Science Center. You will facilitate all lesson plans and lesson extensions (provided by the Kentucky Science Center) for a class of up to 25 students. Additionally, you will provide professional development opportunities for and guidance to camp counselors and all volunteers in the classroom.Responsibilities:Use a provided curriculum to facilitate lessons with campers on a multitude of STEAM subjects with a focus in technology (Minecraft™, Roblox™, coding, LEGO robotics, etc.).Troubleshoot Technology (laptop connections, LEGO robotics, basic block coding, etc.)Maintain a safe and fun learning environment while in and outside of the classroom.Modeling best engineering practices in exhibits, field trip opportunities, and any partnerships.Foster an inclusive classroom environment for all campers, staff, and volunteers.Utilize positive behavior management strategies to establish classroom expectations to manage a classroom of up to 25 campers with counselor support.Deliver/adapt activities for campers with a spectrum of ability levels.Manage classroom materials throughout the week.Preparation and cleaning of classroom.Assist with health and safety of the campers by evaluating and treating minor incidents and informing Camp Staff Leads of any incidents.QualificationsEssential RequirementsMust be available to work a full-day camp setting, five days a week. Camp Hours: Weekdays: 7:30 AM-5:00 PM, May 27-August 2, 2024.Teachers are NOT required to commit to all 10 weeks of camp but are required to commit to a FULL WEEK of work (Mon-Fri). Prefer applicants who can commit to at least 4 weeks of camp.If selected, Camp Teachers are required to attend an in-person orientation May 18 & May 19, 2024.College Graduate or pursuing a degree with emphasis in education or other science related discipline AND/OR prior related camp/teaching experience.Passion for working with and teaching others how to utilize technology including but not limited to experience with: coding, robotics, Minecraft™, and Roblox™Working experience with Pre-K through High School students. Experience with Pre-K-8th grade preferred.Excellent communication and organization skills with an enthusiastic and flexible attitude, navigating the give and take in the teacher/counselor working relationship.Must have the ability to work in a physically fast paced environment that includes navigating multiple floors of exhibit spaces and manipulating a variety of supplies throughout the shift.Must pass a criminal background check.Must have an enthusiasm for working with children with the ability to adapt to changing situation and react calmly under pressure.May be called up to perform other camp responsibilities as needed.Applicant must be comfortable communicating with parents/caregivers on a daily basis.Ability to motivate and inspire others, especially children of all ages.Ability to work comfortably with science equipment, multimedia/instructional technology, and safety procedures.For a full description of camp topics; please see our website at https://kysciencecenter.org/camps/Additional InformationReports to: Manager of Camps & Family ProgramsAreas of Concentration:Front Line- Facilitating Technology Based Curriculum Activities with Campers from ages Pre-K-8th grade: (40%)Front Line- Facilitating and Maintaining Camper Safety within the Kentucky Science Center Exhibits: (30%)Front Line- Troubleshooting & Maintenance/Repair of Technology and Assisting Campers with troubleshooting their Coding (20%)Front Line-Communicating with Camp Parents/Caregivers: (10%)Hiring ProcessKentucky Science Center celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and guests.
