Under general direction, the Network Engineer III provides advanced-level assistance with the installation and operational support of the organization's internal voice and data communication systems, including LANs, WANs, and other Internet, data communications systems and voice systems (including IP, SIP and VoIP). They work on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The incumbent is responsible for the evaluation of current systems and assists with determination of future needs. They plan and lead implementation of large scale systems/projects. The incumbent provides work leadership and training to lower-level network engineers. They create and drive improvements to voice and data system-related processes and standards.
Responsibilities Lead design, planning, and implementation of data network systems Configure and maintain application packages for network monitoring, control, and reporting Track network equipment software/firmware levels/revisions and lead efforts to upgrade accordingly Provide advanced configuration, troubleshooting and problem mitigation of all data network equipment, including wireless and network security equipment Monitor networks and create reports on system performance for short and long range planning Draft network designs, including HLDs, LLDS, diagrams and documentation Work effectively with vendors, contractors and other staff to coordinate system installations and provide quality assurance oversight Provide guidance, direction, and training to lower-level staff Perform other responsibilities as required Perform 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis and after-hours/weekend work for planned maintenance as required Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BS in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field, or prior equivalent work experience Minimum of 4+ years network/telephony engineering experience Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN, data communications systems, Internet and telecommunication protocols, remote access systems, server and LAN hardware systems, routers, switches, firewalls, UPS/PDU equipment, and wireless network equipment Advanced understanding of data-center installation, cabling and labeling standards, voice and data network maintenance and troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with proper use of basic hand tools Expert analytical abilities and problem solving skills Intermediate scripting/programming skills for task automation Intermediate experience using protocol analyzers and other test systems Ability to work as part of a team and/or individually, with proven track record of success Advanced familiarity with software productivity packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio Must have very strong communication skills, be detail oriented, and self-motivated PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Cisco CCNA, CCNP certification (or other equivalent network certification) preferred 7+ years network/telephony engineering experience desired This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely. This position is eligible for a sign on bonus and relocation. The annual base salary range for this position is from $99,445 to $157,144, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
