Prescott College seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position in Psychology. This faculty member will teach and contribute to curriculum development across both our BA Psychology and Human Services and MA Critical and Community Psychology programs, as well as contribute to the Prescott College learning community. This is a campus-based position.
We are looking for a colleague to support our critical mind/heart/soul approach to psychology and wellbeing and to equip students with skills and knowledge to pursue professional careers in mental health fields. These skills crucially include the ability to critically analyze the social and political implications of mental healthcare histories, institutions, and practices, and to contribute to social and political change.
Our ideal candidate brings experience working both in human/social services/community health settings and within movements for social and/or environmental justice and is motivated to connect students with opportunities for hands-on learning.
Teaching might include foundational psychology courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Social Science Research Methods, and Lifespan Development, as well as specialty courses including Foundations in Critical Psychology, Community Psychology, Ecopsychology, Transpersonal Psychology, and Sexuality and Sexual Outlaws.
Ideal candidates will have significant undergraduate and graduate-level teaching experience in online, site-based and hybrid settings; evidence of active research; and a Ph.D. in Psychology (or a closely related field). Program leadership and development skills and experience are also desirable. The candidate's teaching and research emphasis may be in one or more of a variety of relevant disciplinary or interdisciplinary academic fields. Academic and subject areas the candidate might draw from to develop new curriculum include (but are not limited to): critical psychology, decolonial and Indigenous psychologies, feminist/queer studies; ; transpersonal and ecopsychologies; alternative approaches to healing; culturally responsive mental healthcare and counseling skills; psychology of race; trauma recovery; addiction recovery; specific community health issues; online and global contexts; and more. The ideal candidate must also have a strong understanding of the structural and systemic causes of mental health challenges. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in governance, teaching, student advising, and engage in scholarship and professional development within the field.
