Closing Date: April 5, 2024The Environmental Technician (Temporary) is responsible for the day to day collection of field samples and data, and implementation of specific regulatory, permit or other requirements that apply to Red Dog as assigned and to determine the best technology to use in order to remain compliant with various permits and regulationsRotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site, 2 weeks off-siteReports to the Environmental Technical SupervisorResponsibilities:Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresCoordinate the collection, recording and processing of environmental samples and measurements to fulfill defined environmental monitoring requirementsPrepare and follow a schedule and set of procedures, which will ensure the shipment of samples to appropriate laboratories within the required time periodsEnsure accurate and appropriate sampling and safety procedures for the collection of environmental data (proper labeling, clean sampling and handling techniques) to ensure there's no negative impact on test resultsMaintain proper field notes and documentation as well as various adhoc reports related to regulatory, legal, permitting or compliance purposes through the use of spreadsheet, word processing and database softwareParticipate in data collection that is primarily outside and often requires travel by vehicle, helicopter, small aircraft, foot, boat or snow-machine and ensures work is completed safely while in an Arctic environmentDemonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as complies with safety policies and procedures and ensures daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazardsEnsure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as requiredOther related duties as assignedQualifications:A High School Diploma or equivalentMust have basic skills in Microsoft Office suite applicationsMust have valid Driver's LicensePrior environmental or similar experience preferredStrong team cooperation is requiredAbility to perform all tasks with limited directionMust work safely and follow instructionsMust be willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditionsA desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Environmental departmentMust have good organization and observation skillsMust have strong communicate skillsAbout TeckSuccessful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a physical assessment, drug screen and a background check.
