Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.Rotation schedule will be an even schedule with 2 weeks on site and 2 weeks off siteReporting to the Assay Lab SupervisorResponsibilities:Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresProtect the safety and health of employees by promoting safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Teck Alaska policy and appropriate regulationsDemonstrated competency in all essential functions described in the Assay Technician Trainee through Assay Technician V job descriptionsCarry out independent studies under the direction of the Assay Lab Supervisor to determine the validity of changes to analytical procedures, or to test new analytical procedures so that the accuracy and precision of new methods can be confirmed prior to initiating the procedure throughout the laboratoryMentor other Assayers in quality control procedures or other technical topics as assigned by the Assay Lab Supervisor, to develop the technical skills needed by other Assay TechniciansDemonstrate a consistent ability to set a high standard for work ethic, work quality and team buildingAssist in teaching an in-house training course on quality control and basic statistics to aid the career development of other Assay TechniciansOther responsibilities as required or as assignedThe Assay Lab Supervisor will assign the tasks based on the workload of the laboratory and the skills of the particular Assay Technician to whom the assignment is being madeEMS Functions:Properly dispose of waste material generated in the laboratory to conform to all environmental regulations and policiesMake recommendations on laboratory procedures that will reduce the consumption of reagents or eliminate waste produced in the assay laboratoryTrain other Assay Technicians in proper laboratory procedure and in Environmental Management System procedures as required to assure that the laboratory staff follows all regulation and procedure related to environmental managementInternal Job DescriptionQualifications:Minimum of five years assay laboratory experience. A degree in chemistry or a related field with two years of experience will fulfill the experience requirement. Preference will be given to applicants with a chemistry degreeRecent analytical experience involving titration methods, with a preference to applicants with potentiometric titration experienceExperience with at least one of the following techniques: WDXRF, AA, or MP instrumentationMust have proficient computer skills including, but not necessarily limited to Microsoft Office suiteAbility to frequently lift containers weighing five to fifty pounds and occasionally lift forty-five to seventy pound containers of solution above their shouldersAbility to frequently perform analyses which require standing and/or walking for extended periods of time and climb several flights of stairs on a regular basisAbility to enter data and work with computerized instruments, which will involve significant repetitive motionAbility to handle, open and safely dispense from containers of concentrated acids and other potentially dangerous chemicalsDiscern from the printed labels chemicals that require specific personal protective gear or other safety related handlingFollow specific written instructions (Standard Operating Procedures) that describe the laboratory procedures in order to safely and accurately perform the required analysesRespond appropriately to safety warnings that may occur within the laboratory; specifically, to sirens, warning bells or an oral notification of danger that may exist, in order to safely perform the needed analysesManage several tasks simultaneously is requiredSet a consistent positive example of safe, accurate and precise analysis for the laboratory assistants and Assay TechniciansAbility to work proficiently with little to no supervision and must be able to work nights aloneExternal Job DescriptionAbout TeckSuccessful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a physical assessment, drug screen and a background check.
