Job Class: Non-Exempt Reports To: Executive Sous Chef/Sous Chef POSITION SUMMAR Y : The Steward is responsible for cleaning food delivery, storage and preparation areas, and helping with receiving, storing and/or distributing food and beverage products. The Steward will also wash all plates, bowls, glassware, silverware, cookware and cooking utensils and will properly store the items.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: NOTE: Hotel Andaluz may unilaterally may change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs necessary cleanup and sanitation maintenance activities for food preparation and storage facilities Cleans the silverware Performs dish and pot washing as necessary Helps distribute food and beverage products and supplies throughout the kitchen Cleans food production, holding and serving equipment Assists with product receiving and/or storing tasks Washes all ware in the dishwashing machine or by hand according to the highest noted sanitation standards Polish all silverware, platters and chafing dishes Collects trash from all kitchen areas, empties garbage cans, washes and re-lines with new bags. Responsible for breaking down boxes and crates and removing any debris that has been accumulated Examines garbage for misplaced silverware, dishes, glassware and other reusable items Washes and polishes all stainless steel in the kitchen including shelves, dish cabinets, ice machines, coffee area, refrigerators, walk-ins, etc. Washes and cleans and throws trash from other kitchen related areas Sweeps and mops kitchen floors Stores all dishes and other wares in their proper areas Clean dish machine and dish area after each meal period Performs other tasks such as assisting in food preparation, storing foods after being delivered, and cleaning coolers, freezers and storerooms Maintains inventories of soap, chemicals and paper towels Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas Handles all China and glassware carefully as to minimize breakage Continuously inspects floors in the kitchen areas to assure that they remain clean, dry and clear of debris Assists in completing weekly kitchen cleaning and maintenance list Cleans and safely stores all brooms, mops, and other cleaning equipment in their designated places Assists in the completion of other duties that are assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDES EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School Diploma or GED 1 year of experience directly related to the essential functions listed above Must possess the ability to multi-task Must be able to communicate in English with guests, management, and other employees to their understanding. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or listen and occasionally required to sit. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position requires frequent manual dexterity in combination with eye/hand coordination such as handling of equipment. Will have repetitive hand motions and prolonged periods of standing. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 30 pounds The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to high. Exposure to possible hazards which may include but are not limited to; cuts, slipping, tripping, falls and burns. Exposure to heat, cold, and mild chemical exposure. Exposure to water and steam Frequent hand washing
