The Upward Bound program is a component of the federal TRIO Program to assist low income/first generation, 9 th through 12 th graders to graduate from high school and enter post-secondary education. The Director is responsible for the overall implementation of the Upward Bound Program, the day-to-day operations of the program development and management of a comprehensive leadership program. The Director is responsible for program leadership, supervision of staff, and administration of the grant. The Director will assist with the establishment of a student culture where differences are valued, and where students learn self-actualization, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership.
Duties Oversees the overall administrative operations and delivery of student programs and services. Develop strong working relationships with counselors, teachers, and students at sponsored high schools to provide continuous oversight and feedback for the implementation of Upward Bound academic initiatives. Supervises program staff, including hiring, firing, training, and evaluating performance. Provides budgetary oversight for the Upward Bound budget of over $300,000. Track statistics and gather data, to prepare monthly and annual institutional and federal reports including yearly annual progress report. Plans program development, conducting needs assessments and evaluating program effectiveness. Collaborate with key personnel in targeted high schools to continue to implement program objectives. Provide support for recruitment, advising, tutoring, and academic performance/process for 63 high school students. Collaborate with Assistant Director to create and implement academic year and six-week on-campus Summer Academic Institute to assist students in preparation for a post-secondary education. Serve as a mentor and advisor including one-on-one time with students and staff. Provide ongoing evaluation and assessment of Upward Bound to ensure student and program success. Provide expertise in conflict resolution strategies to identify and support behavior expectations for academic and summer components. Develop educational programs (tutoring, college visits, field trips. Saturday classes, etc.) Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and University policies.  Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. Primarily onsite with occasional remote days possible.

Job Location
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field.
36 months in student programming, student services or closely related experience . Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 84 months experience. Skills: Grant program administration Academic research Working with first generation college students and students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education Knowledge of college admission processes Composition and proofreading skills Ability to communicate verbally and in writings Computer skills, including proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines Certifications :
 None Advertised Physical Requirements: Working conditions during Summer Academic Institute and trips may include exposure to extreme temperatures and frequent lifting/moving of supplies. Requires ability to communicate with students, parents, and staff. Sit for long periods of time. Ability to bend, lift, stoop and carry. Ability to engage in repetitive motions. Standard office environment. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Department Preferences :
