Introduction The Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles is currently hiring for two Consumer Protection Investigator positions within the Bureau of Vehicle Services, Dealer and Agent Section! These positions are located at 3550 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse, WI 54601 and 433 W St Paul Ave, Ste 300, Milwaukee, WI, 53203.

Position Summary These positions perform investigations and inspection work to ensure compliance of state laws and Department rules by motor vehicle dealers, motor vehicle salvage dealers, wholesale auction dealers, motor vehicle manufacturers, motor vehicle wholesale dealers, motor vehicle distributors, salespersons, bid card holders, and their respective representatives. These positions also plan detailed investigations to resolve complaints and correct violations. These positions also may work with law enforcement officials on motor vehicle trade practice regulations and complex schemes involving title and salvage fraud.
These positions will be hired at the entry, senior, or advanced level, depending on qualifications.
Salary Information Starting salary for the Consumer Protection Investigator (pay schedule-range 05-13) is $23.82/hr ; for Senior (pay schedule-range 05-14) is $25.76/hr ; for Advanced (pay schedule-range 05-15) is $27.87/hr . Pay is set depending on qualifications. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan.
Job Details WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States. WisDOT is not an E-verify employer.

This position requires frequent travel on an independent basis throughout the assigned region of the state and occasionally throughout the state.
Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.
Qualifications A minimally qualified candidate will have experience with each of the following:
Experience documenting detailed information and summarizing the data in a written report. Experience interacting with a diverse group of internal and external business partners (business partners may include a division, a bureau, a partner agency, the public, etc.) Experience using Microsoft Office software or similar software (software may include Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) In addition to the qualifications listed above, a well-qualified candidate will have experience with at least one of the following:
Experience gathering and analyzing information from business partners. Experience interpreting and applying complex information, such as rules, laws, statutes, or regulations, and explaining the information to business partners. In addition to the qualifications listed above, a qualified candidate at the senior level will have experience with all of the following:
Independently and effectively managing a high-volume caseload. A high-volume caseload may include spending at least 50% of full-time work activities on prioritizing and investigating cases. Interpreting and applying laws and regulations and educating businesses on them through formal or informal training. In addition to the qualifications listed above, a qualified candidate at the advanced level will have with at least one of the following:
Independently researching and resolving consumer complaints regarding vehicle sales. Independently initiating, planning, and conducting comprehensive investigations of complex, fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices involving motor vehicles. How To Apply Apply online!
