Job DescriptionThe Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (VTCC) will be the chief fundraiser for the VTCC, leading all development and alumni relations related activities and interacting closely with communications to develop a VTCC Advancement structure. While reporting jointly to the Commandant of Cadets and the Associate Vice President for Advancement and Campaign Director, the CAO will formulate and implement a strategic advancement plan, including appropriate staffing levels, to complement the strategic plans of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and the University.This position will:- Be responsible for the planning and implementing of an integrated approach to development, communications and alumni relations programs that maximizes support for the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and the University.- Serve as chief development officer for, and manager of, the VTCC Advancement program with responsibility for securing private and, in partnership with University Development, corporate philanthropic support.- Meet or exceed established goals and targets, including:- Travel, on average, five to eight days per month to cultivate, solicit, steward, and identify prospects.- Have a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects- Have a typical solicitation range of $250,000 to $1,000,000- Close $2,000,000 per year using a three-year rolling average- Close on average 10-13 gifts per fiscal yearRequired Qualifications- Bachelor's degree with significant and progressively responsible fundraising and leadership experience or Master's degree.- Demonstrated successful track record in major gift fundraising, preferably within a university setting.- Demonstrated fundraising management experience.- Demonstrated capability of motivating and deploying volunteers, professional staff and donors.- Demonstrated supervisory, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.- Strong computer skills, which should include desktop software and databases.- Strong motivation and the proven ability to work well as a contributing team member within a complex organization requiring collaboration, teamwork and communication.Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated relevant change management experience.- Former VTCC cadets and/or who demonstrate a working knowledge of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and/or similar program.- Experience working with high level individuals to advance relationships which will lead to their investment in priority areas.Appointment TypeRegularSalary InformationCommensurate with experienceReview Date11/27/23Additional InformationThe successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.About Virginia TechDedicated to its motto,Ut Prosim(That I May Serve), Virginia Tech pushes the boundaries of knowledge by taking a hands-on, transdisciplinary approach to preparing scholars to be leaders and problem-solvers.
