Full job description Eustis Engineering is looking for an Assistant Project Engineer for Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Gulfport, Mississippi, offices.
SUMMARY: As an entry level professional, our Assistant Project Engineer coordinates project requirements with client representatives then continues coordination of site access with field crews, assigns laboratory tests, and performs geotechnical engineering analyses and evaluations. An Assistant Project Engineer will provide supplemental support for the Drilling and Laboratory Departments as well as other Engineering Department positions (such as Engineering Technician and Draftsperson) including operation and maintenance of Cone Penetrometer equipment, processing of Cone Penetrometer Test data, and performance of Pile Dynamic Testing. The Assistant Project Engineer will also be involved in the company's geotechnical instrumentation and remote sensing programs and will also assist others in development and management of the company's GIS and geologic mapping resources.
Involvement with construction phase projects may also include construction materials testing and/or special inspections of soils, concrete, masonry, and deep foundations. Other duties may be assigned. Field assignments are primarily in the State of Mississippi with some out-of-state assignments. Assignments may require overtime, weekend, and out-of-town work. The Assistant Project Engineer must have an appropriate motor vehicle operational license for employment.
The Assistant Project Engineer will be expected to cycle through periods of engineering training and learning at our Metairie, Louisiana, office within the first 6 to 12 months of employment. This is a measure to ensure your best chance of success with our firm and your role in the Engineering Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific responsibilities include the following.
Coordinate field exploration operations, including utility locates (One Call). Prepare permit requests for field explorations. Operate and maintain the cone penetrometer testing rig fleet. On an as needed basis, work as a field Soil Technician or Engineering Technician. Reduce and correlate soil test data and CPT data. Perform in-situ testing. Develop and maintain GIS and geologic mapping resources. Prepare daily reports of field activities. Perform drafting using MicroStation/AutoCAD/Bluebeam or other software with training. Obtain, process, correlate, evaluate, and plot field instrumentation data. Maintain equipment calibration records. Knowledge of the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Knowledge of the AASHTO Soil Classification System. Prepare field work orders and laboratory assignments in accordance with predetermined project budgets. Operate and maintain Pile Driving Analyzer and perform dynamic pile testing. Operate and maintain Thermal Integrity Profiler (TIP) and perform TIP testing. Operate and maintain other field testing equipment (resistivity, CSL, PIT, etc.). Apply general safety requirements and other contractual safety requirements to the work being performed. Inspect work areas, make safety recommendations, take corrective action, and summarize these on daily reports. Contacting and obtaining project information from a client necessary to complete report. Perform standard geotechnical engineering analyses and evaluations generally covered in undergraduate curricula. Assist Project Engineers/Project Managers in more rigorous or difficult analyses and evaluations generally covered in graduate level courses or developed through experience. Build knowledge base of local area geotechnical practices under the guidance of your project manager including analyses of foundations, settlement, lateral response of foundations, axial response of foundations, embankment stability, seepage, effective stress and total stress designs, application of engineering software to complete assignments in a timely manner, and assistance of report generation and delivery.
