The Assistant Director of Financial Aid has an integral role in the successful enrollment of newly admitted students and to their retention through graduation. They support the SCS mission by providing aid financing options and packaging awards to make a Georgetown education more accessible; and provide financial aid and the counseling that is required for the administration of aid to both prospective and enrolled students.
With general supervision from the Associate Director of Student Financial Services, they carry responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

Develop and maintain expertise in many aspects of student affairs, including Admissions, Student Accounts, Registrar, and other relevant offices Deliver counseling services to current and prospective SCS students regarding the financial aid process, procedures, and program rules, including information about all federal, state, private, and institutional loan, grant and work programs Review and process financial aid applications, maintain all financial aid records, and provide written and verbal communications with SCS students to ensure the highest standards of customer/client services They support established procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policies specifically related to special enrollment situations such as provisional admission for both full and part-time students Maintain frequent contact with prospective applicants seeking admission to Georgetown and with newly admitted graduate and undergraduate students Necessarily and fully know programs and work closely with these programs to ensure that the highest level of customer service is provided to students Provide information on financial aid options and guidance during the prospect phase of enrollment Participate in other events and occasional evening hours - including outreach, presentations at open houses and other events to offer access to working students Maintain relationships with this diverse student population, various University student services offices, and outside organizations to achieve quality student financial service. Outside organizations vary from vendors and auditors to state and national government agencies. Manage and resolve student issues as they relate to extenuating family circumstances in a diplomatic and professional manner Carry out institutional and Federal fiduciary responsibilities and implement and comply with Federal regulations; oversee verification and accuracy of information; and play an integral role in the recruitment and retention process in achieving specific enrollment goals through a thorough review of the financial ID application, and counseling on alternative financing sources Administer SCS scholarship and loan programs to financial aid applicants each year, including application processing/audit, financial counseling, monitoring enrollment status, reviewing requests for additional aid in unusual or emergency circumstances, and monitoring students' satisfactory academic progress Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation


Reporting directly to the Associate Director Student Financial Services, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid maintains relationships with the SCS student population and administrators, to include but not limited to:

Provide financial aid counseling to the students who are enrolled or seek to enroll in SCS programs, including but not limited to all Liberal Studies degree programs and all Masters of Professional Studies programs, where applicable Work closely with many other University departments - for example, Registrar, Student Accounts, Academic Affairs, Admissions - to ensure that the highest standard of customer service is provided so that students are able to afford a Georgetown education and complete their degree programs Play an integral role in the recruitment and retention process by helping to achieve specific enrollment goals through timely review of the aid applications using the Federal need analysis methodology, counseling on alternative financing methods, preparing prompt financial aid notifications, and participating in client services/public relations activities Carry out Federal fiduciary responsibilities for - and compliance with - myriad Federal laws and regulations, especially those governing Federal student loans Oversee verification and accuracy of information on the financial aid application. Serve as a member of the Financial Aid Counseling Unit - one of five lines of OFSF business - which also includes one Associate Dean, 4 Assistant Directors, 7 Associate Directors, and 3 Financial Aid Officers working toward performance goals set jointly by the Associate Dean for Student Financial Services and SCS Communicate and interact with prospective applicants for admission to Georgetown SCS programs, as well as with students admitted and currently enrolled in SCS programs

Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor's degree Full-time or part-time work experience with counseling, customer service, and/or administrative support Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and to use independent judgment where appropriate Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse client population, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer services. Experience with - and knowledge of - PC-based administrative software Excellent listening skills Ability to multitask and to work under deadline pressures. Working knowledge of federal financial aid regulations and compliance standards Superior customer service skills Availability for flexible work hours, as described below. Preferred Qualifications Any combination of experience with Banner, Cognos, and/or Microsoft Office Knowledge of federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid program rules, regulations, or processes Excellent listening skills, ability to multitask, ability to work under deadline pressures Working knowledge of federal financial aid regulations and compliance standards Superior customer service skills Financial Aid experience Flexible Work Hours: The role of Assistant Director of Financial Aid requires flexible work hours to serve our students. The days and hours worked at the SCS location will be scheduled at SCS discretion, in agreement with the Student Financial Services, to include evening office hours to serve working professionals and students arriving for class. The 40 hour per week work schedule requires working up to three evenings per week, including two nights with an end time of 6:00 p.m., and one night with an end time of 8:00 p.m. On rare occasion, weekend event attendance will be required.
