Job DescriptionThe Assistant Director of College Facilities and Safety in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and safety of facilities within the college. This position has the exciting opportunity to support the college's mission of excellence in education, research, and outreach across the state. Working in conjunction with the Director of College Facilities, the Assistant Director will help oversee improvements to a wide range of physical infrastructure including state of the art laboratories, teaching spaces, and agricultural research facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facility management, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance, along with excellent organizational and communication skills. This position is Administrative & Professional Faculty, regular appointment, emergency personnel.Required QualificationsRequires a master's degree in facilities management, engineering, building construction or relevant field, or a bachelor's degree (same disciplines) and significant applicable work experience.Experience developing project scopes, estimating costs, and tracking expenses to keep projects on budget.Experience in construction project management.Knowledge of state and local safety, fire, building code, and construction regulations. Experience reading, understanding, and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.Experience performing safety evaluations, audits, or inspections.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization and with external constituents.Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to travel to on-campus and off-campus facilities throughout Virginia.Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience working in a higher education, academic, or research environment.Experience delivering safety training.Experience creating and editing CAD drawings, GIS data, or other technical graphics software.Working knowledge of OSHA standards and the interpretations, technical principles, practices, and procedures used to comply with OSHA regulations and standards for general industry, construction, and agricultural operations.Certified Facility Manager, Facility Management Professional, Certified Construction Manager, or Certified Safety Professional.Appointment TypeRegularSalary Information$65,000 - $80,000; commensurate with experience.Review DateMay 30, 2024Additional InformationMust have a criminal background check.Ability to meet a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends and available on-call for emergency by telephone and/or cell phone.On 24-hour emergency call.
