Position SummaryUnder the general supervision and guidance of the Director of Resources Management, the Administrative Support Coordinator II serves as the public face of the College of Arts and Letters Dean's Office to visitors in person and on the phone and will assure that operations in the front office proceed as efficiently as possible. The ASC II is responsible for multiple work assignments related to budget and financial activity for the Dean's Office and will provide support for the Technology Acquisition Review Process, CAL's Systems Support Group, and the Center for Brazilian Studies. The ASC II will assist the Dean's Assistant in organizing the College's standing committees and with routine internal events. This position is responsible for providing coverage of reception desk and phone lines as well as clerical support functions and will report to the Director of Resources Management.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.Department SummaryThe College of Arts and Letters has 18 academic departments, 12 interdisciplinary programs, 24 centers, and one joint doctoral program. With over 475 permanent faculty and associated lecturers, the College is the largest of the seven colleges at San Diego State University and is responsible for 36% of the instruction at the University. There are approximately 60 clerical and technical employees in the college. The Dean's Office is responsible for the implementation and continued support of the instructional, research, and development processes in the college.For more information regarding the College of Arts and Letters, click here .Education and ExperienceEntry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.Key QualificationsExperience working with budgets.Experience coordinating administrative support functions for a group.Experience with data entry and updating database records.Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently, and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,000 per month.Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.
