Manage long-term, strategic scoped actuarial projects related to corporate actuarial, ratemaking, large account pricing, and/or predictive modeling to support the growth and profitability objectives of the company while following generally accepted actuarial standards of practice. Supervisor responsibilities may include staffing, training and development, performance management, and work force planning.
**This is a hybrid position that requires 2 days per week in the office and can be based in either of our four locations:** 1) Milwaukee, WI 2) Madison, WI 3) Merrill, WI  4) Mechanicsburg, PA Please note your preferred work location from the list above when applying.** Supervisor/manager responsibilities may include all the following: Staffing needs, to include interviewing and onboarding for new employees. Training and development, as well as coaching and motivation, for staff. Performance management, goal setting, employee engagement, and salary administration. Workforce management to include; unit equipment, software, and space needs, approving time off and overtime usage, and budget recommendations. Serve as a subject matter expert on actuarial work. Leverage relationships within and outside of the Actuarial area to deliver projects on time. Exerts influence on outside teams as appropriate to meet project deliverables while creating positive impact within the organization. Develop and influence work plans of team and others to ensure timely completion of projects. Communicate actuarial work using the appropriate level of technical terms for the given audience from both actuarial and non-actuarial areas, including senior leadership. Professionally represent the company's position with regulators, auditors, and external vendors. Negotiate within defined parameters assigned. Accountable for resolving unreasonable results or non-optimal solutions using experience and professional judgment. Build complex models/tools. Monitor the effectiveness of the models/tools. Evaluate alternative methods for utilization along with considering new methods for various situations. Responsible for the accuracy and suitability of the data for a given project along with incorporating new or little used data sources into the analyses. Analyze business unit performance that relates to profit and/or growth objectives. Troubleshoot and detect errors in the current work tools and processes. .
Bachelor's degree in related field required. FCAS designation is strongly preferred. May consider ACAS designation. Typically ten or more years of actuarial experience is required in the property/casualty insurance industry. Demonstrates mastery of advanced actuarial methodologies and insurance concepts. Proficient in incorporating new or little used data sources or fields into analysis. Proficient in adding/building complex models/tools. Exhibits political savviness in communication at all levels of the organization. Ability to anticipate potential problems and proactively take steps to minimize or avoid negative impact. Displays command of the legal/regulatory requirements in work products. Ability to develop strategic scoped and long-term project priorities. Displays effective supervisory and leadership skills. Candidates with varying experience levels can be considered for roles below Actuary level, based on demonstrated skills and potential for growth within the actuarial department
