Warehouse Operator 2 Location Tumwater, WA : Description Department of Corrections - Correctional Industries Warehouse Operator 2 Correctional Industries Headquarters, Tumwater WA Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to fill a permanent Warehouse Operator 2 (WO2) vacancy. This position is located at Correctional Industries Headquarters in Tumwater, WA and typically works from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future, permanent and non permanent positions. DOC OFFERS: Flexible schedules Comprehensive compensation packages Training and development opportunities The fulfillment of public service Duties Correctional Industries is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated work training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics and reduce the tax burden of Corrections. This position supports that objective by receiving, staging, tracking and loading raw materials and finished good to prepare for the transportation of products and raw materials to customers and between CI sites from SDD and CDC. Maintains security and control over incarcerated working in the Service and Delivery Division and the Consolidated Distribution Center. Provides work ethic and marketable job skills training to incarcerated working in Correctional Industries in accordance with CI Legislative mandate. Tasks my include, but are not limited to: Shipping and Receiving: Assists in the Operations at a CI warehouse, which include finished goods, raw materials, and/or supplies for all CI production. Assists in the receiving, storage, and shipping of all finished goods, checks bill of lading, transportation packing slips, and pick up orders against loads for verification of count and condition. Trains incarcerated workers in warehousing techniques, including product handling, loading, and unloading, and all other aspects of warehousing and transportation. Monitors and evaluates worker performance monthly. Completes evaluations as needed by policy. Supervises/participates in loading/unloading of vehicles incoming and outgoing. Performs the work and supervises incarcerated workers in the proper use of Warehouse material handling equipment and daily sanitation of work areas: Use material handling equipment safely and according to industry standards for picking, loading, unloading and delivering all goods, i.e. Electric pallet jacks, forklifts, trucks, trailers, carts etc. Maintain accurate tool control during the business day and conducts tool control accountability inventories per policies. Participate in the daily maintenance, arrangements and cleanliness of facility and equipment. Submit for purchase and repair of materials and equipment. Assist in the planning and effective use of space and equipment. Conduct required periodic inventories of material and equipment. Performs the work and supervises incarcerated workers in accurate Inventory Management for accountability of all products within the current inventory tracking system: Effectively manage inventories to include identifying and maintaining reorder points, first in/first out stock rotation and inventory levels. Ensures stock is organized, and stored in a manner that facilitates other staff pulling and shipping orders accurately, and conducting monthly and quarterly inventory. Conducts and participates in routine physical inventories including monthly, quarterly, yearly and other various types of warehouse stock count functions for inventory. Maintain an organized and efficient work environment free of hazards. Assist in annual consumable and/or fixed asset inventory. Investigates discrepancies and ensures timely and accurate resolution. Train and evaluate Incarcerated workers according to department policies and provided additional job specific training: Directly supervises and trains Incarcerated workers in proper shipping and receiving and distribution of all products. Evaluate and document Incarcerated workers behavior, work performances and training. Submit timely, meaningful worker evaluations for level of duties, skill and abilities for certificates of proficiency Conduct new Incarcerated worker orientation and job specific training for workers in direct area of supervision. Additional training to include work area specific skills required in computer applications for shipping and receiving clerk positions, inventory management, safe use of electric and manual pallet loading equipment for material handling positions, safe use of trailer equipment, powered industrial trucks training and operational skills test, sanitation and hazcom training requirements for janitorial positions. Responsible for the safety and security of staff and Incarcerated workers working in the unit in accordance with DOC policy and institutional directives: Provide staff escort for incarcerated work crews assigned to CI SDD/CDC areas to complete work necessary for facility operations. Including providing supervision on daily Bus transport. Respond to and document all safety and security incidents according to policy. Respond to and document all accident and injuries of workers according to policy. Assists direct supervisor in the development of Standard Operating procedures for the work area assigned to improve or enhance the operation. Participate in active communication with incarcerated workers, ensuring timely information sharing with customers including staff on delays of products, or possible security issues Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school Graduation or GED equivalent One (1) year of warehouse experience where duties include shipping, receiving, or inventory management. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft office Currently possess a forklift certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Ability to lift and move 50 pounds Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Experience in training others Experience working with incarcerated or in a correctional facility Knowledge of LEAN practices Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: Maintain regular and reliable attendance. Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check. Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training. Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections. Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
