Role Description We are seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to fill the role of Vice President of Vertical Construction. This pivotal position will oversee construction projects and their respective directors and project managers, guiding them from initial lot acquisition to the final completion of quality homes and commercial structures. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, adaptability, proficiency in communication and prioritization, and extensive experience in construction leadership.
Primary Responsibilities Establish standardized best practices for the construction of scattered lots, production communities, and commercial projects, ensuring quality deliverables and customer satisfaction. Develop and maintain detailed descriptions of jobs and materials necessary to complete projects, utilizing advanced technology platforms. Prepare and submit budget estimates, regularly communicating budget progress and costs, while ensuring adherence to budget constraints. Plan, coordinate, and oversee all vertical construction projects, ensuring timely and organized scheduling of subcontractors and adherence to quality standards. Select, contract, and oversee contractors for specific needs, partnering with vendor managers to rank vendor performance and build a bench of quality support contractors. Oversee safety standards on job sites, ensuring compliance with all safety codes, including OSHA regulations. Collaborate with supervisory staff, contractors, and design professionals to resolve problems and ensure efficient project execution. Participate in value engineering of homes and commercial projects, focusing on product specifications and alternatives. Analyze, manage, and mitigate risks associated with construction projects, working to eliminate waste and minimize variances in construction time and project budgets. Oversee the review and approval of all construction schedules, developing workarounds for forecasted delays and ensuring daily updates. Conduct project and subcontractor meetings for all vertical projects, providing strategic guidance and support. Assess personnel performance of construction directors and project managers, ensuring goal attainment and addressing issues promptly. Accurately process change orders and review variance invoices, maintaining a focus on cost control and budget management. Oversee the company's warranty program, ensuring timely resolution of issues and customer satisfaction. Required Skills & Traits Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in construction leadership roles, with a focus on vertical construction projects. Strong understanding of construction processes, techniques, and best practices, with a proven track record of successful project management. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor teams to achieve project goals. Proficiency in technology platforms for project management and scheduling. Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements, including OSHA standards. Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop creative solutions. Results-oriented mindset with a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. Experience with residential project management software and Implementing Management Systems Experience with cost projection, financial analysis, and budget reviews Experience with Estimating and Budget preparation Experience in Design Build work Schedule: Monday-Friday, standard daytime hours; 8 am - 5 Occasional weekend work may be required. Work Location: In-person and some hybrid Work Environment: Office-based environment with a business casual dress Standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines, are used in this role. Physical Demands: The role requires the ability to talk and hear, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds, may be necessary. Some travel might be required.
