Job Description We are looking for an experienced technical writer to join our team to work on Oracle Linux product documentation. Knowledge and experience working with a Linux distribution is highly valued but not required. A passion for evolving technologies and exploring new software is a must.
In this role you are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining user assistance and training documentation for Oracle Linux and related technology. You will collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders to design and deliver core documentation and some training material in the form of written tutorials and procedures.
Previous experience as a leading contributor on writing projects where you can describe how you have provided direction and mentoring to others, is a basic requirement. Work in this area is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in a specialized area of development. You must demonstrate understanding and knowledge of any of the following technologies: XML, XSL, DITA, Docbook. You ideally should have used version control software, either git or Subversion. Functional knowledge Linux or UNIX is highly valued. Knowledge of Markdown, Python, Perl, Java, Bash or the REST framework are all positive and will contribute heavily toward consideration.
You should possess a degree, certificate, or relevant industry experience. Suggested majors include English, technical writing, communications, instructional design, software engineering, or computer science. Minimum of 6+ years of user assistance development or relevant experience.
You should be comfortable with remote working from home, in an internationally distributed team. You need to be flexible about your working hours to be able to attend meetings across different time zones and should be effective at self-management.
Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include:
Creating user assistance content for the Oracle Linux product area. Content includes, but is not limited to documentation and tutorials.
Hands-on testing and validation of software by using either Oracle VM VirtualBox or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Updating internal Confluence wiki pages and Jira tickets to track work and internal processes.
Performing user accessibility testing on existing documentation to contribute to user accessibility conformance reports.
Meeting with and collaborating with internal stakeholders to drive documentation development within our product area.
Reviewing feature specifications and test cases and identifying areas of content development.
Helping to lead cross-team collaboration to explore other initiatives that could benefit the wider organization.
Organizing, teaching and mentoring other more junior team members.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position.
