Position Description St. Martin's Episcopal School in Metairie, Louisiana, seeks a dedicated Upper School Mathematics Teacher for grades 9-12. The successful candidate will inspire students through the dynamic delivery of five math courses and contribute to our vibrant school community by leading at least one student club or organization.
Key Responsibilities :
Teach five mathematics courses across grades 9 to 12. Serve as an advisor to a designated group of students, providing guidance and support to foster their academic and personal growth. Engage in additional duties as assigned by the Head of Upper School, helping to shape a positive educational environment. Curriculum Development and Teaching: Develop course curricula that are aligned with the departmental standards. Create and deliver lesson plans that engage and challenge students. Offer individual assistance to students requiring additional support. Student Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate and current records for all students, including grades, attendance, and behavioral observations. Communication and Collaboration: Engage in proactive communication with the Head of the Upper School, Department Chair, colleagues, and parents to ensure effective monitoring and support of student engagement and performance. Supervise advisees, monitor their academic progress, and manage family conferences each semester. Maintain open lines of communication with advisees' parents and inform the Head of the Upper School, Academic Dean, and Counselors of any significant issues. Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends in Mathematics content and pedagogical methods to continually enhance teaching practices. School Involvement: Actively participate in departmental and faculty meetings. Manage class-related tasks using Google Classroom Document curricula in the Atlas Curriculum Mapping platform Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Head of the Upper School. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education is preferred. Degrees in other math-related fields will be considered. Coaching ability/experience preferred but not required. An extensive conceptual knowledge of mathematics A desire to help students develop reasoning, resilience, and strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and parents. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
