Position Summary  We are seeking a passionate History Teacher to join our team as a long-term substitute for 9th and 10th-grade classes in the Fall Semester of 2024. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage students in the exploration of Ancient and Non-Western History in 9th grade, and Modern World History in 10th grade, within a private independent school setting. The successful candidate will inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for historical events, cultures, and societies.
Primary Responsibilities Hours: 7:45-3:25 daily. Plan and deliver engaging lessons that align with the school's curriculum and educational standards for 9th grade Ancient and Non-Western History, and 10th grade Modern World History. Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, opinions, and questions about historical topics. Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote active participation in classroom discussions and activities. Incorporate primary and secondary sources, multimedia materials, and technology to enhance students' understanding of historical events, figures, and concepts. Foster critical thinking skills by encouraging students to analyze primary and secondary sources, evaluate historical evidence, and develop their own interpretations of past events. Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments, including tests, quizzes, projects, essays, and class discussions, and provide timely feedback to support their academic growth. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to share information about curriculum, student progress, and any concerns or opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to integrate interdisciplinary connections and enhance the overall educational experience for students. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and other relevant data in accordance with school policies and procedures. Uphold high professional standards and adhere to the school's code of conduct, policies, and expectations for faculty members. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in History, Education, or a related field. Teaching certification or credentials in History or Social Studies (preferred). Previous teaching experience at the high school level, particularly in Ancient and Non-Western History and Modern World History. Demonstrated knowledge and passion for historical content, including proficiency in Ancient civilizations and non-Western cultures, as well as modern global events and trends. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Innovative and creative approach to lesson planning and curriculum development, with a commitment to using technology and varied instructional strategies to enhance student learning. Collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a team to support student success and contribute to the school community. Flexibility, adaptability, and resilience to effectively manage the challenges and opportunities of a long-term substitute teaching position.
