Job Summary Responsible and accountable for the clerical functions of the nursing unit which includes the practice of guest relations in facilitating the flow of communications in an organized, courteous and professional manner. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. Location/Department specific tasks and competencies may apply. Essential Functions Process monthly statistics. Process physicians' orders. Coordinate absences from the nurse's station with the supervisor or designated alternate to assure that phones are answered 100% of the time and communication is maintained. Demonstrate ability to use phone system fully and effectively. Watch EKG and Arrhythmia monitor and is able to recognize arrhythmias. Admit and discharge patients on monitor. Utilize Meditech appropriately completing revision screen within 24 hours of patient admission and updates as needed (surgeries, consults). Prepare and checks the pre-op and medical patient's record. Complete within one (1) hour prior to scheduled surgery as indicated by initials on pre-op checklist. File patient related reports, (i.e., lab, radiology, H&P, etc.). - All reports filed as soon as possible and at least within four (4) hours. Maintain shift report sheet as directed. Accurately obtain and disseminate information, (lab, radiology, etc.), measured by documentation on appropriate form and feedback from nursing staff and others. Assist with patients under the direct supervision of an RN (i.e., weight, feeding, commode privileges, answering patient call lights, positioning patients, transferring patients). Take responsibility for keeping the nurse's station and patient care area clean and orderly. Maintain the medical record: Add necessary forms on a daily basis. Prepare the chart for discharge and makes follow-up appointments. Order office supplies and special critical care equipment and supplies. File new and revised policies, procedures, and call lists in appropriate manuals within 24 hours of receipt. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee. Education High School diploma or GED required. Experience/Training Minimum one (1) year related healthcare experience preferred. License/Certifications Current Washington State Nursing Assistant - Registered (RNA) or current Washington State Nursing Assistant - Certified (CNA) required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) healthcare provider BLS certification required. Other Skills Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of the healthcare environment required. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work). Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.Skagit Regional Health offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, 457b/401a (retirement), long term disability, and paid time off to all employees holding an FTE of 20 or more hours per week.
