Full job description Introduction WisDOT is currently seeking to fill a Transportation Specialist Advanced (Materials Lab Coordinator position) within the Division of Transportation System Development, Southwest Region. This position will be located in our La Crosse WI office.

Position Summary The essential function of this position is to perform various complex and technical tests for materials acceptance following AASHTO or ASTM procedures and utilizing specific testing equipment on the physical properties of materials including soils, salt, mineral aggregate, hot mix asphalt (HMA) and Portland cement concrete (PCC) and to compare test results to the Standard Specifications and Quality Management Program (QMP) requirements. This position serves as the primary contact person for the region laboratory daily activities and determines job assignments of Limited Term Employees, Student Engineer Trainees, and consultants. This position ensures the region materials laboratory remains qualified by maintaining, calibrating, and keeping a current inventory of testing equipment in good working order. This position performs and documents independent assurance testing and reviews.
Salary Information This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $64,480-$85,280, plus excellent benefits . A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Job Details WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States. WisDOT is not an E-verify employer.
Ability to frequently travel on an independent basis such as traveling at least three days per week to multiple construction sites.
Ability to perform field work which involves working in all seasons including adverse weather conditions and working in high volume traffic conditions.
Bending is required on a limited basis as well as the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.
