Announcement # 2024-127 Transportation Safety Coordinator Engineering Department of Natural Resources Hourly Wage: $32.75/Regular/Full-Time The incumbent will follow the goals and objectives as established by the Tribal Transportation Program and Yakama Nation's Tribal Traffic Safety Committee, as approved by Tribal Council, to reach the goal of Target Zero which is to eliminate motor vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle related crashes, resulting in serious injuries and fatalities on or near Yakama Nation lands.
Examples of Work Performed: Regularly schedule and conduct Tribal Traffic Safety Committee meetings that will include the participation of relevant tribal programs, community coalitions, and governmental entities. Prepare meeting agendas and minutes.
Seek out, apply for grants related to transportation safety and carry out the deliverables, and assist in the maintenance of files and records to comply with and complete the grants.
Inform the leadership and membership of Yakama Nation and the general public of outlying communities on the importance and value of improving traffic safety by providing assistance within a team concept to plan, develop, organize, coordinate and implement community educational, recreational, social and cultural outreach events that promote Traffic Safety.
Identify sources of traffic collision data (motor vehicles, bicycles, pedestrian) compile, analyze, and prepare reports, safety measures and presentations as needed.
Monitor and analyze implemented safety measures and assist in updating the Safety Management Plan as necessary.
Prepare and submit monthly reports and progress reports to the Program Manager.
The position will be performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk on uneven ground, occasionally lift heavy items up to 50 pounds.
Other duties as assigned.
Work hours will be on a 40-hour weekly schedule, prearranged flex time may be granted due to evening or weekend events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must possess technology skills in the operation and use of computers, including hardware and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook), data management, smart phones, digital cameras, and other electronic equipment as needed.
Possess skill to create and sustain effective relationships with coworkers, diverse community members, partners, and organizations.
Skilled in multi-tasking, establishing priorities and organizing workload effectively and efficiently to accommodate numerous deadlines.
Skilled in facilitating groups for conducting community outreach.
Ability to maintain excellent time and attendance to meet program goals and objectives and meet scheduled deadlines.
Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision and able to work in multiple teams.
Ability to seek out multiple funding sources and grants and prepare applications.
Ability to summarize and simplify complex technical subject matter without jargon or acronyms and obscure terms.
Ability to speak and write clearly, persuasively, and effectively, write technical reports, memorandums and make presentations. Presentations should rely on visualization.
Ability to make informed decisions and projections from written sources, statistical data, and geographic information.
Ability to plan and attend various safety events and meetings which may occur during work hours, and/or the evening hours and/or weekends.
Ability to travel for meetings, training, and conferences up to two weeks a month.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public or Business Administration, Communications, Social Sciences, or closely related field; or work experience in a comparable position, e.g. field of traffic management, traffic safety, law enforcement, highway engineering or other closely related field. Or work experience in developing strategy planning, programming and implementation, community organizing, program coordination, or community events identifying, collecting, analyzing, and presenting data.
Must demonstrate and express a self-motivated and positive approach to identifying and completing the activities necessary to perform the work associated with this position.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
