The Senior Medical Director role is an advanced clinical leadership role. This physician develops, supports, and implements policies, procedures and workflows that will drive the growth, adaptation and expansion of the CanoHealth model of care. The Senior Medical Director will perform direct patient care, consult with peer providers and colleagues, supervise midlevel providers (PA's, APRN's etc.), and serve as a clinical resource within their place of practice and for any provider within the CanoHealth network. The Senior Medical Director will model the standard of medical excellence which is aspired to at CanoHealth. Responsibilities include participation in administrative and clinical leadership staff meetings, creating and supporting population-based care management strategies, establishing policies and procedures for meeting quality standards in accordance with federal and state regulatory and accreditation guidelines. May participate in state and local healthcare related meetings to acquire and apply knowledge of social, regulatory, political, and economic factors that relate to health services. Also participates in population-based care management, public health efforts, and provides guidance in the appropriate utilization of healthcare resources. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Participates in administrative decision making along with CCO actively creating recommendations for policies, procedures and workflows to improve care delivery throughout the CanoHealth System. Works with and supports the CCO in developing metrics and mechanisms to evaluate individual provider and network performance Develops and implements provider feedback mechanisms Works with Medical Directors in relaying this information to providers and monitoring improvement in metrics and outcomes Supervises and supports Medical Directors in the execution of their roles Selects, trains, evaluates, and helps develop Medical Directors for the network Is responsible for the performance of the Medical Directors who report to them Works with multiple departments to evaluate, recruit, train, and maintain a physician work force to meet company needs Interviews prospective provider level employees and makes recommendations for hiring Works co-operatively with leadership of all other departments to co-ordinate delivery of clinical care, achievement of departmental goals (i.e. HEDIS scores, quality ratings, Coding and billing compliance, etc.) Works with the electronic health record (HER) team to streamline Effectively utilizes electronic health record (EHR) to document clinical activity and manage population health Works effectively and cooperatively with other members of the medical team to provide direction in the development and conduct medical educational and training Serves in a leadership, advocacy and mentorship role for the Medical Directors and clinical leads Assists in standardizing workflows, protocols, training programs and physician support to ensure that providers practice to the accepted standards of care Assumes an administrative and clinical leadership role for the primary care team at their site of practice if there is not an alternative clinical lead for that site Clinical oversight of Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and RN Supervisor and Allied Clinical Staff as required. Reviews medical records as is required by regulatory mandates for the clinic and mid-levels supervised as required. Participates in local administrative and clinical leadership staff meetings to assist in quality care initiatives, office policies and accreditation activities as needed. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice Supervisory Responsibilities Medical Directors Education & Experience Medical degree with National Board Certification in family medicine, internal medicine, emergency care or occupational health Over 7 years of medical management experience Current National Board Certification Knowledge, Skills & Proficiencies Skilled in operating phones, personal computer, software and other IT systems. Skilled in oral communication. Ability to communicate with associate, patients and other individuals in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to recognize leadership potential and train physician leaders Ability to pay close attention to detail and to ensure accuracy of reports and data. Fluent in English and Spanish Physical Requirements
This position works under usual office conditions. The employee is required to work at a personal computer as well as be on the phone for extended periods of time. Must be able to stand, sit, walk and occasionally climb. The incumbent must be able to work extended and flexible hours and weekends as needed. Physical demands include ability to lift up to 50 lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
