Full job description What You Will Do

At LANL, we solve national security challenges through scientific, technological, and engineering excellence. The Weapons Research Services, Secure Networks and Applications (WRS-SNA) group is looking for Cybersecurity professionals for the Nuclear Weapons Cyber Assurance Laboratory (NWCAL). The successful candidate will work as part of a team to support operational technology (OT) assurance requirements with a growing team within the Weapons Physics Directorate (ALDX) to support LANLs Weapons mission.


As a CTS1, you will be part of the NWCAL assessments team responsible for customer relations, interacting with our ticketing request system, managing aspects of our OT training lab, and participating in our operational workflow. This consists of conducting storage media assessments, software assurance assessments, process assessments, consultations and device research services, and participating in operational technology assessments. Additionally, you will work with the WRS-SNA Information System Security Officer (ISSO) team to ensure established frameworks and solutions comply with required security controls.



What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Cybersecurity
For this position, you will need working knowledge and demonstrated application of current and future network, telecommunications, data management, security, hardware, software development, and systems programming technologies, how they inter-operate, and how to design and develop complex solutions. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and complete assignments on schedule; to identify, address, and resolve technical problems; and to use a systematic approach in solving problems.



Technical Knowledge
Fluency in at least one programming language (C, python, perl, rust, etc.). Identification, monitoring, detection, analysis, exploitation and/or mitigation of complex computer and network security vulnerabilities, incidents, and suspicious activity. Experience with digital communication systems and/or other digital signal processing. Understanding of Environmental Safety and Health, and security requirements.



Collaboration
Willingness to expand into new fields, be mentored and coached, and to pick up new information quickly and independently. Demonstrated experience working independently with minimum supervision, as well as effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.



Communication
Strong technical writing skills and overall strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills including interacting effectively with all levels of management, staff, and customers.



Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information security, computer science, electrical engineering, or related technical field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Desired Qualifications: Understanding of the Weapons Program and US National Security Enterprise (NSE)
Technical Skills (two or more):

Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-1) Linux command line network monitoring and packet capture (PCAP) Experience with different communication protocols (TCP/IP, RF, etc.) Experience with Operational Technology (SCADA, ICS, etc.) Experience with Information Technology (classic enterprise computing) Experience with FPGA, ASIC design, development, and/or troubleshooting Experience with forensic investigation, data triage, network archaeology Candidate must have the ability to obtain a DOE Q and SCI clearances. Active clearance(s) preferred. Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.



Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.



Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.



Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.



Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
