Job Summary: Maintenance Technicians in automotive parts manufacturing companies are responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and upkeep of machinery, equipment, and facilities to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.

Job Responsibilities: Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:
Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection, to ensure the proper functioning of machinery and equipment. Diagnose equipment malfunctions and mechanical issues using troubleshooting techniques, diagnostic tools, and equipment manuals. Conduct repairs and adjustments to machinery, components, and systems to restore functionality and prevent production disruptions. Preventive Maintenance: Execute scheduled preventive maintenance activities according to established procedures and maintenance schedules. Identify and replace worn or defective parts, such as belts, bearings, motors, and sensors, before they cause equipment failures or breakdowns. Perform predictive maintenance tasks, such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, to detect potential equipment failures and address them proactively. Equipment Setup and Changeovers : Assist in the setup, calibration, and changeover of manufacturing equipment to support production requirements and minimize downtime between product runs. Ensure that equipment settings, tooling, and configurations are properly adjusted and aligned according to production specifications. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, alarms, or abnormal operating conditions to minimize production disruptions. Analyze equipment performance data, diagnostic reports, and maintenance records to identify root causes of recurring issues and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with maintenance supervisors, engineers, and production personnel to resolve complex technical problems and optimize equipment performance. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others. Perform safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk assessments on equipment and work areas, and take corrective actions to mitigate potential hazards. Report safety incidents, near misses, and hazards to management and participate in safety training and awareness programs. Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, parts consumed, and equipment downtime using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or other tracking tools. Generate maintenance reports, work orders, and equipment logs to track equipment performance, identify trends, and communicate maintenance needs to supervisors and management. Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and suggest ideas for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements. Provide feedback on equipment reliability, maintainability, and performance to support root cause analysis and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) efforts. Training and Development: Stay updated on new technologies, maintenance techniques, and best practices through training programs, workshops, and self-study. Share knowledge and expertise with other maintenance technicians and production personnel to enhance team capabilities and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Job Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent: Most automotive parts manufacturing companies require candidates for Maintenance Technician positions to have a high school diploma or GED as a minimum educational requirement. Technical Education : While not always mandatory, many employers prefer candidates with additional technical education or training in fields related to maintenance and repair. This could include: Technical Diploma or certificate program in maintenance, electrical, or mechanical trades from a vocational school or community college may also be sufficient for entry-level positions. Work Experience: Experience in maintenance, repair, or related fields would be preferred. Technical Skills: Candidates should possess basic technical skills related to maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance techniques is essential for success in maintenance technician roles. Working Conditions: Manufacturing Environment: Maintenance Technicians typically work in manufacturing facilities where automotive parts are produced. These environments can be noisy, bustling, and sometimes dusty or oily due to the presence of machinery and equipment. Shift Work: Automotive parts manufacturing companies often operate on multiple shifts to maximize production output. Maintenance Technicians may be required to work evening, night, or weekend shifts to ensure continuous maintenance coverage and support production schedules. Physical Demands: Maintenance Technicians may need to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting heavy objects. They may need to maneuver equipment, tools, and parts during maintenance tasks or equipment repairs. Safety Protocols: Working in an industrial environment involves potential hazards, including moving machinery, electrical systems, and high-pressure equipment. Maintenance Technicians must adhere to strict safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and follow safety procedures to prevent accidents or injuries. Temperature Variations: Some manufacturing processes may generate heat or involve exposure to extreme temperatures. Maintenance Technicians may need to work in environments with temperature variations, such as hot production areas or cold storage facilities, depending on the specific processes involved. High Pressure and Deadlines: Maintenance Technicians are often responsible for addressing equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, or technical issues promptly to minimize production disruptions. They may work under pressure to diagnose problems quickly, implement repairs, and restore equipment functionality within tight deadlines. Environmental, Health and Safety Expectations: Employee Responsibilities: Work in compliance with ABC Standards, EHS Policies, Local, Regional and Federal acts, bylaws, and regulations. Report any spills or leaks immediately. Use personal protective equipment and clothing as required. All Employees shall follow Site Workplace Safety Guidelines. No Employee shall remove or make ineffective any protective device and must report missing or damaged protective devices. No Employee shall use or operate any equipment, machine, or device in a manner that may endanger themself or another worker, including the operation of equipment, machine, or device without proper training or certifications where required. No Employee shall engage in horseplay or unsafe acts. Employees must immediately report any hazard(s), unsafe act/condition, near miss or incident regardless of severity to their Group Leader. All Employees must maintain a drug and alcohol-free workplace in compliance with the substance abuse policy. Security and Housekeeping: Ensure visitors and contractors follow the Contractor Management Policies / Site-specific Procedures. All Employees must use the designated employee entrance and exit doors. Under no circumstances can employees prop or cause to remain open any entrance or exit door that could permit entry to the facility for unauthorized individuals. All employees shall ensure the building is always clean and a safe workplace. No food or drink is permitted in the warehouse or production area, unless in a spill proof container.
