Full job description The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking to fill Phlebotomy Technician III position to perform complex phlebotomy services and a variety of functions related to phlebotomy. Provide functional supervision and training of Phlebotomy Technician I, Phlebotomy Technician II, and students as required.
Duties to include: Obtains blood and other specimens from patients of all ages according to established policies and procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing. Perform skin puncture or venipuncture according to aseptic techniques. Complete redraws as needed. Performs routine and complex specimen procurement processes. Labels specimens according to hospital policy. Instruct and train staff and students in phlebotomy techniques. Responds to inquiries concerning phlebotomy policies and procedures. Performs data entry and computer tasks related to order entry and phlebotomy. Order, receive, and replenish supplies. Maintains phlebotomy area and equipment Lead quality improvement projects for assigned area or unit. Recommends measures to improve service methods, quality control, and suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and safety. Participates in and contributes to department/division/unit committees, meetings and/or projects and in-services. Assure compliance with Joint Commission standards. Percent of Time: 60%
Schedule: 4am-1230pm, 8 hour shifts, rotating weekends, every other holiday

Minimum Eligibility Requirements: High school graduation or equivalent, and Current certification as a Phlebotomist Technician by ACA (American Certification Agency), AMT (American Medical Technologists), ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), NCA (National Center for Competency Testing), NCCT (National Credentialing Agency) or NHA (National Health career Association), and Three years of experience performing phlebotomy work. Special Qualifications: Previous public contact/customer service experience Desirable Qualifications: Completion of a phlebotomy training program or previous phlebotomy experience Minimum six (6) months previous experience working in a healthcare setting Basic computer skills Previous experience with Personal Protective Equipment Previous patient contact experience Application Process: Please include a resume with your submission.
