This position will serve as an English Language Learner teacher ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
The incumbent may perform any combination of the essential functions outlined below. This description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities, associated with this position, but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements. Co-teaches and co-plans with grade level teachers, content area teachers, and PLCs using Honigsfeld/Dove model for Collaboration and Co-Teaching Works with teaching partners to fully integrate WA ELP Standards, sheltered instruction techniques, language development strategies, scaffolds, and differentiated instruction into all aspects of classroom practice and all content areas Provides both direct and indirect support to ELL students Secondary Building-Based ELL Teacher may also teach English Language Development (ELD) CCSS KSD ELA frameworks-aligned support classes for ELPA21 Emerging and/or Progressing students; ELA endorsement is required for this assignment. Provides regular professional learning for school colleagues for implementation of ELPS and sheltered instruction strategies Assists Building ELL Specialist in implementation of individual, department, grade level and schoolwide professional learning Assists Building ELL Specialist in planning lessons and assessments to be delivered by ELL Paras, and directs the work of the ELL Para as part of the co-teaching team in the classroom Coordinates with the ELL Para to receive placement information about newly identified English language learners Participates in regular professional development for English language development, content area, and grade level instruction. Communicates, meets with, and advocates for families of ELL students to ensure that: Families feel welcome and valued as members of their school Families are invited to authentically engage in their child's education Families have accurate information about the district's model for language development services, and understand the services their child is receiving and why Families understand that they can make choices about their child's education Families thoroughly understand graduation requirements, and how their child will be provided with a path to graduation regardless of the student's level of language proficiency OTHER JOB DUTIES Uses sheltered instruction strategies to make content accessible to language learners at all levels of language proficiency Scaffolds and differentiates instruction to meet the needs of language learners at all levels of language proficiency Disaggregates ELPA21 results and applies additional formative assessment to accurately determine and implement appropriate language development strategies for increasing English language learners' proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing within core instruction Effectively plans and delivers CCSS/NGSS/ELPS-aligned instruction utilizing district-adopted, grade-level appropriate curricular materials Effectively plans and delivers ELPS-aligned formative language development assessments and track student language development progress Effectively and successfully plans with and co-teaches with a variety of other teachers at various grade levels and across content areas Effectively uses all available data to inform instructional planning for ELD Carries out all federal and state requirements regarding the education of ELLs Completes, in a timely fashion, all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the administration. Works cooperatively with others. Attends meetings as directed and in compliance with the KEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional development opportunities. Maintains a safe working condition and safely operates electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities. Performs other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a public school environment with occasional travel to District and community sites; required to adjust to shifting priorities; may occasionally deal with situations involving conflict and uncertainty; work varied hours. Sitting, standing, bending and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate Washington State certification is required and must be on file prior to beginning work ELL or Bilingual Ed endorsement required K-8 teaching cert required for all elementary candidates Content area endorsement required for all secondary candidates. ELA endorsement preferred; required for all secondary candidates who will be teaching English language development classes Elementary candidates: minimum 2 years of documented successful previous elementary classroom teaching experience required Demonstrated expertise in WA English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) as aligned to CCSS/NGSS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Secondary candidates: minimum 2 years of documented successful previous secondary content area teaching experience preferred for secondary candidates Previous successful experience co-teaching Previous successful experience teaching English language learners Experience with culturally relevant teaching techniques Experience working with diverse student populations Credibility with colleagues Experience in analyzing data to identify appropriate instructional practices Effective interpersonal communication skills Strong organizational skills Knowledgeable about Washington State Learning Standards and current with research-based instructional practices for sheltered instruction Ability to effectively model, co-teach, co-plan, and collaborate with other teachers Good technology skills. Can use and incorporate computers/technology into curriculum and instruction Maintain positive learning environment Experience working with interpreters Team player with excellent management and communication skills
