The Surgical Technology /Sterile Processing Instructor is located in the Division of Nursing and Allied Health Services. This is a full-time position. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Required Education: + Associate Degree from a regionally accredited school required + Bachelor's degree in any field preferred. + Must possess National Board of Surgical Technology/Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Certification in Surgical Technology, and have a minimum of three years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or combination of both within the past five years. + Active Association of Surgical Technologist Membership and current American Heart Association, Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) CPR Certification. Preferred qualifications + Certification and Experience in Sterile Processing Department + College-level teaching experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Assist in planning and implementing strategies which promote assimilation of new students into the programs + Engage in activities which enhance the programs and College's relationship to the community + Assist with data collection and analysis with regards to program assessment, effectiveness, and retention + Contributes to the development of policy and procedures related to the clinical training phases of the programs + Instruct students in the lab, classroom, and clinical setting, as assigned + Engage students in critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal workplace skills. + Assess students' progress in fulfillment of the performance competencies. + Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate in the lab or clinical settings + Participates in departmental meetings, advisory committee meetings, and others as appropriate + Seeks out emerging trends and information within the Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing fields. + Strives to understand and use technology as it applies to the core learning outcomes, and as it is appropriate for the student population + Demonstrate professional communication skills when relating to students, staff and clinical site + Coordinate the ordering and inventory of lab equipment and supplies. + Incorporate the use of the library into courses, use writing as an instructional method, and utilize computer and other academic technologies in courses when possible. + Engage in continual professional development activities. + Meet all scheduled classes and conference hours. + Maintain a minimum of 10 office hours per week. + Promote diversity in the classroom. + Adhere to professional standards of conduct. + Represent the college in the community. + Participate in the evaluation process. + May participate in the development of proposals for obtaining grant funds to support departmental and college-related activities. + Delivering quality-learning experiences to students. + Using alternative educational delivery systems and instructional techniques. + Incorporation of library, computers, technology, writing and a culturally diverse perspective. + Continuous assessment of the teaching-learning process and its outcomes. + Continuous professional growth and development. Job Concepts The Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Instructor is responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course objectives and for the periodic review and updating of course material. This position will monitor students in the clinical areas, teach theory in classroom, and demonstrate clinical skills in the simulation laboratory. Additional faculty members 'responsibilities include advising students, assessing courses, serving on college committees, participating in extracurricular activities, community service, and professional development. Faculty may be required to teach evenings and weekends as well as on-line, dual enrollment, and service learning courses.
