Supervisor - Payroll Operations (Supervisor A - 260) Location Columbus, OH (Downtown area) : Definition It is the responsibility of all applicants to provide a complete list of relevant work experience (previous and current) on the application . As a member of our payroll operations team, you will be responsible for supervising staff and contributing to processing bi-weekly and special payrolls of over 9,000 Columbus City school district employees. Under general direction, you may organize, coordinate, and review the work of payroll data input from external and internal sources. You may also perform a variety of technical analyses and accounting duties involved with processing payroll including; management of electronic and manual data, entering, verifying, processing payroll data, and maintaining payroll records. You will reconcile payroll reports, communicate with employees and outside stakeholders, and ensure adherence to established district practices, policies, procedures, bargaining unit agreements, rules, and regulations.

This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. Lead and supervise the day-to-day operations of payroll staff. Provide guidance, support, and training that encourages teamwork and professional development. Participate in employee hiring, training, counseling, evaluation, and discipline for staff under your immediate supervision. Delegate tasks and work responsibilities to payroll personnel. Develop and communicate constructive changes and initiatives with staff to meet payroll objectives and adhere to deadlines. Collaborate with other departments providing clarification of the district's current processes and procedures. Analyze and resolve issues prior to payroll processing, perform general accounting tasks in relationship to payroll. Provide oversight and reconciliation functions. Work with staff to verify payroll documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Maintain internal controls to safeguard payroll data and mitigate risk. Prepare and/or reconcile retirement system reports; communicate, calculate, and enter adjustments pertinent to retirement records. Review and analyze memorandums of understanding, Board adopted resolutions, bargaining agreements, processes, and procedures. Possess strong understanding and ability to interpret and explain such legislation and address questions and concerns from employees and outside stakeholders. Confirm pay tables in ERP correspond with Board approved contracts and agreements. Provide customer service to employees, address escalated payroll-related inquiries, and resolve issues promptly. Analyze and prepare documents for biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tax payments. Prepare, reconcile, and distribute W-2 information. Safeguard storage of payroll related records including timesheets and reports, withholding information, all earnings, retroactive pay increases, supplemental pay, and professional development pays. Provide public records requested information to the district's public records administrator. Reconcile and verify compliance with payroll-related government agencies. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Accounting, Finance, or Business-related field preferred. Four years of financial recordkeeping or accounting/payroll experience preferred. Public entity payroll experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Microsoft Office products knowledge required. Ability to problem solve complex payroll issues. Ability to provide professional customer service and maintain confidentiality. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with all stakeholders. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Tools/Equipment Use: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching . Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds). Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours. Attendance: Punctual onsite and/or virtual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions .
