Under the direction of the Summer Program Director at Geffen Academy at UCLA, the Summer Music Educator will create this course of study, prepare materials, and deliver an excellent summer music enrichment course for Geffen Academy's Summer Program students. The Summer Music Educator will design and teach three courses: one music class for 45 minutes for students in rising grade 5 and two music classes (90 minutes each) for students entering grades 6-11. Both classes will run over a three (3) week period. The course will be taught in-person on Geffen Academy's campus. Job Duties :
Consistent with the department's goals participate in the design and development of curricula that develops a creative and innovative mindset and joy in students.
Create one 3-week, introduction to music class for students entering grade 5.
Create two, separate 3-week music classes for students of varying musical levels for students entering grades 6-11.
Familiarity with acoustic and electric guitar playing, piano playing, song-writing, and instrument care.
Familiarity with MIDI keyboards and pad controllers and their pairing with Ableton.
Familiarity with music theory.
Engage students in composing melodies and harmonies, mixing samples, manipulating sounds and effects, recording vocals, and integrating instruments.
Create a learning environment where students feel safe, welcome, and challenged.
Be available to students and parents for any and all department related issues.
