Counselors and volunteers at Summer at NCRC support teachers in creating a fun, engaging learning environment that nurtures the whole child and welcomes them to the NCRC community. Counselors follow the direction of the teachers to ensure their classroom promotes discovery, exploration, development, fun, and excitement. The following outlines expectations for counselors and volunteers at Summer at NCRC:
General
Work cooperatively as a member of your teaching team Participate in all camp activities with a smile and a positive attitude Be on time and maintain a good attendance record Attend Summer at NCRC Orientation on June 8th Bring a solution-oriented attitude to all problems Maintain a positive, happy attitude toward all members of the NCRC community Report to the Classroom Teachers on any issues pertaining to the students or classroom Classroom
Engage happily and constructively with children Assist in providing and maintaining a classroom environment that helps children feel emotionally comfortable and safe Assist in maintaining classroom organization and cleanliness. Help to display children's work; help keep all areas of the school looking nice Follow the direction of the teachers in guiding and redirecting children as necessary over the course of the camp day Curriculum
Assist in implementing engaging, child centered, play based curriculum for summer fun and learning Assist in undertaking art activities that emphasize the exploratory process rather than the product; minimize stencils and teacher-made cut-outs Please visit the Summer at NCRC website for more information. Successful applicants for counselor positions will have;
Experience working at the Early Childhood Level, Availability for the entire 6 weeks of Summer at NCRC Progress toward a CDA, AA, or Bachelor's degree (plan to complete any of these within 2 years) A happy, congenial, cooperative nature An eagerness to join our vibrant community of learners and educators *Volunteer Positions are unpaid.
