Job Description:Summary:The position involves working with multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise for industrial clients, primarily in the mining, mineral processing, manufacturing, and power industries. Project assignments include design and analysis of structural elements, project management, mentoring of less experienced staff, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, and construction observation. The work may at times require short-term, out-of-town work assignments. This position also includes an active role in client service and business development. Business development activities may include proactively communicating with clients during project engagements, marketing leads, and project opportunities; developing proposals and presentations; and networking and working to inform clients of Barr's capabilities.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)10+ years of related work experience, specifically in design and analysis related to mining, mineral processing, manufacturing and power industriesProfessional engineer (PE) certified or ability to obtain PE within one yearStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsWillingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiativeA flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needsDemonstrated project organization and management skillsWork experience with structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCADLegal authorization to work in the country without the need for sponsorshipAcceptable driving recordPreferred Qualifications:Experience with 3D software such as Revit or supervising staff working in this softwareExperience with multidisciplinary teams including coordination of deliverables between disciplinesStrong technical skills in a wide range of structural analysis and designExperience in the consulting industryDemonstrated ability to work independently and with teams including multiple disciplinesDemonstrated ability to lead project work, schedule and delegate tasks, and mentor less experienced staffDemonstrated business development and client relationship development skillsA hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office.
