Description: The Associate Vice President for Research Advancement and Strategy is seeking a Strategic Proposal Development Specialist. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Strategic Proposal Development ( SPD ) Specialist will work to expand the capacity of faculty teams to prepare large, complex, transdisciplinary competitive research and programmatic proposals for federal, state, and private funding. The SPD Specialist will facilitate proposal development of large-scale, interdisciplinary, and inter-institutional projects in collaboration with pre-award and research development professionals across the eleven colleges at Oregon State University ( OSU ), and any partnering institutions and organizations. Key responsibilities include coordinating the submission of large and complex proposals, providing proposal development know-how and input on grant readiness and competitiveness, organizing proposal review panels, and writing non-technical and institutional proposal sections. The SPD Specialist will facilitate faculty funding success by identifying and tracking major funding opportunities using funding databases, federal agency websites, peer institutions' websites, and other resources. The SPD Specialist will assist in promoting awareness of limited submission and large funding opportunities of $1M or more that are relevant to OSU as an R1 institution, assisting in the management of internal competitions and contributing to communications via website and email newsletters. The SPD Specialist will report to the Associate Vice President for Research Advancement and Strategy and will work collaboratively with the Office of Research Advancement ( ORA ) team to manage research development initiatives, programs, and engagement events that enable faculty to become more competitive in securing extramural funding for large transdisciplinary projects that advance OSU's Strategic Plan priorities. With $480 million in competitive research awards in Fiscal Year 2023, OSU continues to lead the way with practical, problem-solving research that improves lives, protects natural resources, and generates economic growth to transform our future. Oregon State's researchers are top ranked in their fields, hold leadership positions in international and national professional organizations, and have received prestigious honors and earned global reputations. Oregon State is also building the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Center by 2026, a new $200M university-wide research complex that will be at the center of OSU's future transdisciplinary research enterprise and strategic plan and that will host five new signature research facilities, including one of the nation's most powerful supercomputers.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty): Typically requires Master's Degree in field relevant to program focus.
Requirements : Bachelor's degree in science, communications, journalism, English, education, or closely related field At least three years of experience in grant writing, research development, or research administration Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to analyze and summarize funding opportunity announcements Demonstrated ability to work with and/or manage large, collaborative teams Demonstrated ability to write, proofread, and/or edit technical writing Demonstrated ability to work productively across academic units and to develop and to foster partnerships with a wide variety of university and external constituencies Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the research enterprise
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Type: This position may have an in-person, hybrid, or fully remote location. The incumbent in this position must be available to meet virtually with researchers, teams, ORA staff, and other university partners during standard working hours of 8 am – 5 pm Pacific Time.
Additional Salary Information: $51,072 - $86,904
