Job summary
The State of Connecticut, Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Stationary Engineer.This position supports facilities and grounds operations for a 92-acre campus in Rocky Hill.The Stationary Engineer will operate the central steam plant and ensure the health and safety of agency staff and residents.
Job seniority: mid-to-senior level
Responsibilities
• Operate the central steam plant for heating and hot water• Monitor steam output and system issues• Ensure health and safety of staff and residents• Maintain and repair mechanical equipment• Perform periodic and special tests and checks• Calculate and record operating data• Assist in general building maintenance and repair• Perform minor tests for fuel specific gravity and gas leaks• Inspect and repair steam traps• Remove pipe insulation materials
Requirements
• Three years of experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of steam boilers or power plant equipment• Knowledge of boilers, generators, and mechanical equipment• Interpersonal and communication skills• Ability to utilize computer software• Physical fitness for the duties
Key Skills Needed
• Operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, generators, and mechanical equipment• Knowledge of water chemistry in a boiler system• Experience managing a hazardous material program• Maintenance of power plant equipment• Working for a 24/7 agency
