Warby Parker is on the lookout for a Staff Web Engineer to help drive the evolution of our mission critical business systems. In this role you'll take ownership of the development, design, testing strategy and standards of the Warby Parker web application. You'll also help establish best practices and guidance around all aspects of our technology in order to help build a best-in-class technology discipline. Think you've got the goods? Keep reading.What you'll do:Help build and design a roadmap for your engineering team to build highly scalable, observable, and reliable systemsDrive the execution and delivery of this roadmap across the engineering organization, working closely with stakeholders, SREs, and other principal engineers Provide technical guidance and facilitate the process of engineering design reviews on migrations towards service-oriented architecture, changes to existing architecture, and making existing systems more scalableBuild a metrics-driven operational culture support our practices for KPI measurement and review, as well as for logging, monitoring, alerting practicesPropose and drive large improvements to business systems to achieve significant impact to our business Mentor and coach other engineers to be help solve technical challenges and grow overall technical prowessesWho you are:Backed by 7+ years of professional software engineering experienceExperienced building modern and performant frontend applications with or more modern client-side frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular, Ember) in a professional settingAn expert in domain modeling and system designSomeone with deep technical experience with cloud providers, distributed systems, and service-oriented architectureA clear, concise communicator with the ability to influence othersSomeone with a strong belief in accountability, who holds engineering teams to a high standardAn expert in data modeling in one or more modern relational databasesSomeone with strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, object-oriented design, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysisAble, willing, and just plain excited to learn new domains quicklyInsatiably curious and passionate about innovationNot on the Office of Inspector General's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)Extra credit:Direct involvement with open source software projectsExperience optimizing the JavaScript performance of high-volume systemsSome benefits of working at Warby Parker for full-time employees:Health, vision, and dental insuranceLife and AD&D InsuranceFlexible vacation policyPaid HolidaysRetirement savings plan with a company matchParental leave (non-birthing parents included)Short-term disabilityEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Bereavement SupportEducation ReimbursementFree eyewearAnd more (just ask!)
