Senior Flavorist (Glanbia Nutritionals, Inc., Salt Lake City, UT) Maintain databases of experiment characteristics or results of food and beverage flavor formulas. Read current scientific or trade literature to stay abreast of scientific, industrial, or technological advances for the food flavor industry. Develop methodologies for transferring procedures or biological processes from laboratories to commercial-scale flavor manufacturing production. Prepare technical reports, data summary documents, or research articles for scientific publication, regulatory submissions, or patent applications. Review existing manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for yield improvement or reduced process variation. Design or conduct follow-up experimentation, based on generated data, to meet established process objectives. Collaborate with manufacturing or quality assurance staff to prepare product specification or safety sheets, standard operating procedures, user manuals, or qualification and validation reports. Prepare project plans for flavor equipment or facility improvements, including time lines, budgetary estimates, or capital spending requests. Design or direct bench or pilot production experiments to determine the scale of production methods that optimize product yield and minimize production costs. Participate in equipment or process validation activities. Consult with chemists or biologists to develop or evaluate novel technologies. Collaborate in the development or delivery of flavor manufacturing training materials. Provide required support to the QA/QC team to resolve internal or external non- conformities. Mentor flavor trainees and technicians to help develop their skills in flavor creation and raw material knowledge. Present flavor training materials at specific customers as needed. Create new and novel flavor profiles to meet the guidelines set by customers in the flavor project. Requires up to 15% domestic and international travel. Salary: $108,000 - $117,000 per year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Chemistry, Food Science, Food Technology, Environmental Science, or related field, plus 5 years of professional experience as a Food Chemist, Food Technologist, Formulator, or any occupation/position/job title involving food chemistry.
Must also have the following special skills:  5 years of professional experience developing and creating novel flavors and finished product formulations; 5 years of professional experience performing flavor matching for all flavor categories; 5 years of professional experience performing flavor modification including liquid, powder, emulsions, and encapsulations; 5 years of professional experience performing flavor laboratory analytical activities including distillation, liquid extraction, GCMS, and flavor analysis according to chemical compound data output; and 5 years of professional experience using Microsoft Office software including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel to communicate with internal teams.
