Sr. Director, Associate General Counsel: Retail Bank Legal Capital One's Legal team is seeking an experienced attorney to lead the Retail & Small Business Bank team. As a Senior Director and Associate General Counsel, you will lead a team of talented attorneys and specialists in supporting the Retail Bank across its full range of activities, including checking and savings products, marketing, operations, and fraud support. 
In this role, you will help to identify risks and solve problems alongside a team of world-class professionals. You will meaningfully participate in building innovative products and services as embedded legal counsel. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Providing strategic legal advice on a variety of complex issues and topics
Translating laws, regulations, and legal requirements into clear and actionable  guidance
Developing systems and frameworks for evaluating and minimizing risks (legal, compliance, reputational or otherwise) to the business.
Recognizing trends externally and issues internally to drive solutions proactively
Building relationships and collaborating with business stakeholders in wide-ranging roles
Understanding business needs and providing appropriate solutions to reach the desired goals 
Working collaboratively with other members of the Legal Department to provide advice in a consistent, well-reasoned manner
Inspiring your team 
Basic Qualifications:  Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
At least 8 years of legal counsel experience in a law firm, in house or in government
At least 5 years of litigation experience as a legal counsel or advising on matters of regulatory compliance
Preferred Qualifications:  3+ years of experience in advising financial services 
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in teams and independently, make effective and integrated decisions, and collaborate effectively with associates at all levels in the company
Ability to deal with ambiguous situations, complex concepts, and details
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence others
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
