Job description
SUMMARY
Provides Direct Instructional Services (DIS) in speech/language as written in special education student's IEPs. Evaluates, consults, and advocates as necessary to ensure that school clients receive appropriate speech/language services. Confers with the Clinical Director in developing and implementing speech/language programs.
· (k)(1) "Language and speech development and remediation" means screening, assessment, IEP development and direct speech and language services delivered to children with disabilities who demonstrate difficulty understanding or using spoken language to such an extent that it adversely affects their educational performance and cannot be corrected without special education and related services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide hourly Speech/Language Services for non-school clients.
Implement the Speech/Language IEP goals and objectives for each assigned student.
Perform screening evaluations on students that may need Speech/Language services including hearing.
Perform evaluations as needed in order to write Speech/Language goals and objectives for IEP reviews.
Attend IEP annual reviews for assigned students.
Attend all staff, training, and team meetings as scheduled.
Attend weekly supervision as scheduled.
Confer with parents, administrators, classroom teacher, social worker, and others to ensure understanding of student's speech/language deficits and therapy program.
Schedule parent conferences as necessary.
Work with parents to accept and develop skills in dealing with student's speech/language deficit..
Advocate as necessary for student's public-school speech/language needs through the IEP process.
Provide community outreach through professional contacts in the community including speaking on related topics, visiting preschool and other community programs, and making appropriate referrals when necessary.
Confer with the Director of Clinical Services in developing and implementing new speech/language programs
Assist the Director of Clinical Services in ensuring that the Speech/Language program is adequately staffed by fully qualified speech/language personnel.
Assist in the hiring process.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises interns in the Speech/Language Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities includes assisting Clinical Director with training interns; planning, assigning, and directing work and appraising performance.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
(k)(2) Language and speech development and remediation shall be provided only by personnel who possess: (A) a license in Speech-Language Pathology issued by a licensing agency within the Department of Consumer Affairs; or (B) a credential authorizing language or speech services.
· Master's degree (M.A.) in Communicative Disorders or equivalent.
· Licensed Speech and Language Pathologist
· Completed CCC
· One-year minimum experience providing SLP services to students with autism spectrum disorders.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret required curriculum material, Center policy and procedural manuals, professional journals, governmental regulations, and any other bulletins and written directives as needed. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, IEP goals and objectives, and other communications as needed. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parent's, staff, outside professionals, and others as needed.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Licensed by the California State Department of Consumer Affairs, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Examinining Committee and certified by the National Speech-Language and Hearing Association as clinically competent.
TRAINING:
Training in appropriate use of physical restraint techniques through CPI and the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program provided by Switzer Learning Center's in-house CPI Certified Instructors within 30 days of hire.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
$35-$40 per hour (depending on experience and credential).
10 days of paid sick leave accrued annually.
