Full job description The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Nationwide Research Institute Program . Working as a member of the Research and Scientific Affairs department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.
The person in this role will support the implementation, monitoring, and tracking of the American Lung Association Nationwide Research Institute; which includes the Airways Clinical Research Centers Network, the Awards and Grants Program, Science Forums, and the Accelerator Program. This position will provide support throughout the grant application processes, track deliverable submissions, assist in coordinating and managing all aspects of peer review committee meetings, and assist in drafting meeting summaries.
This position will work with the Vice President, Nationwide Research Institute to administer all payment and contract/award agreements with institutions, plan/schedule of peer review, DSMB(s), and other scientifically focused meetings. Process recruitment capitation tracking information, institute invoicing, and payments to centers. Provide additional assistance as requested by the Research Institute Team and the Chief Medical Officer.
Location: The position is located at the American Lung Association's New York City office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work.
Responsibilities: Support the implementation of the American Lung Association Research Institute, including the Airways Clinical Research Centers (ACRC), Awards and Grants, Science Forums, and Accelerator Program. Support the organization and implementation of committee meetings, such as the Scientific Advisory and the Scientific Innovation/Investment Advisory Committees. Work with the Director(s) to manage the award expenses ensuring timely payments. Submit all required payments. Track expenditures and payments, interface with medical institutions/universities regarding payments and inquiries regarding payments and necessary material submission. Track and confirm ACRC center/site participant recruitment data. Support the Awards and Grants and ACRC application review process, including the following: Coordinate the preparation and follow-up for Peer Review meetings; coordinate invitations, staffing committees, meals, and supplies. Provide logistical support to peer review committees throughout the meeting planning and execution process. Assist the Awards and Grants and ACRC program by monitoring no-cost extensions, deliverables, maintaining documentation updates, and handling administrative tasks such as mailing letters. Assist in the development of the Scientific Advisory Committee meeting book and provide other meeting support, as needed. Assist with all communication updates of research projects and awardees. Provide additional assistance and complete other tasks as assigned. Travel within the United States for conferences and other events. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with a focus on public health/science or combination of education and experience. Prior work experience in administrative position; project management Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize using independent judgment. Strong attention to detail is necessary. Computer proficiency with MS Office. Familiarity with scientific research, peer review processes, and clinical networks is preferred. Must have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Willingness and ability to take initiative, take on increased responsibility, and work with minimum supervision. Familiarity with Proposal Central a plus but not required. Must have access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel within the assigned area 5% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required. Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. (supplies) Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form, including vaping. Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $47,000 and $62,500 per annum.
