Medford Township Public Schools seeks an Elementary School Special Education Teacher for the ******** academic year. This position requires an Elementary K-6 certificate with Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate or Teacher of the Handicapped certificate issued by the NJ Department of Education required.
Primary Function: The Special Education Teacher provides direct and indirect academic and behavioral instruction and support to eligible students in a resource setting, in the general classroom and/or in a classroom for students with multiple disabilities. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Assumes professional responsibility for providing specialized learning experiences to students with disabilities in a supportive and positive classroom climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge as outlined in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Prepares lesson plans with special education strategies designed to accelerated student progress. Is knowledgeable of current best practices in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics to students with special needs. Utilizes data to construct and offer differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of each student. Works collaboratively with administration, child study team, general education teachers, related services staff, and parents. Works in partnership with case manager to compose IEPs, as needed, to ensure that the needs of special education students are being met. Demonstrates knowledge of current rules and regulations regarding special education and program requirements. Strong command of technology to support instruction. Qualifications: New Jersey teacher certification appropriate to teaching assignments. N.J.S.A. 18A:26-2; N.J.A.C. 6:11-5.1, 5.2, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5, 8.6 Such alternatives to the above as the board may find appropriate and acceptable. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth. Prior experience working with special education students is preferred.
