Gravitas, a Michelin Star Fine Dining New American restaurant in Ivy City, is seeking a Sommelier. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience in running a fine dining wine list and selling on the floor. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Service and Employee Management
Provide warm and knowledgeable service to all Gravitas guests Liaise with restaurant and outlet operations staff to ensure a seamless guest experience Assist in creating a culture encourages our staff to grow Support beverage and service teams Ensure consistent, thorough, and timely communication to peers, managers, guests, and vendors Continually strive to provide opportunities to advance the education and development of staff as it relates to food, wine, and service Assist in researching and conducting comprehensive beverage training for FOH staff, working in conjunction with Management Wine and Beverage Oversight
Ensure that safety, security, and loss control policies and procedures are complied. Maintain thorough knowledge of all wine, saké, beer, spirits, specialty cocktails, teas and sodas, and all non-alcoholic beverages. Take meticulous monthly inventory Oversee maintenance/cleanliness of all decanters, wine stations, and all storage areas pertaining to beverage Planning and maintaining storage of wine General/Miscellaneous
Understand and comply with all federal, state, county, and municipal regulations/ordinances that pertain to health, safety, and labor requirements of the farm/restaurant/inn, its employees, and its guests. All other duties as assigned by General Manager and Owner/Executive Chef KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS Have a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar position Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time Have excellent communication and organization skills Willing to work a flexible schedule and holidays Relevant experience in fine dining hospitality/restaurant operations Ability to work collaboratively across the organization Extensive knowledge pertaining to all aspects of winegrowing, wine production, wine styles, and regional wine laws pertaining to classic regions from around the worldThe ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time. The ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach with hands and arms, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds.
