Organizational Unit Overview: It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.
Job Duties : The Department of Pediatrics at the Brody School of Medicine at ECU is seeking a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) to provide mental health therapy to a diverse pediatric patient population and their family members.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide extensive mental health evaluation, assessment, and treatment to children and their families referred by healthcare providers. The assessment will include comprehensive evaluation of development, behaviors, and psychosocial functioning, in order to diagnose and develop comprehensive treatment plans. The therapist will provide short and long-term individual, group, and family therapy utilizing a variety of therapy methodologies including behavioral and insight-oriented treatment as well as play therapy. The therapist will utilize a multidisciplinary team approach and consult with other professionals involved with the family regarding assessment and treatment issues, family dynamics, treatment techniques, and community resources. This position sees patients at the General Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine, and the Adult and Pediatric Health Care Clinics.
CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center. ECU Health Medical Center is the flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) will also be considered. All licenses must be current with their respective Board and unrestricted.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Social work or counseling experience. A working knowledge of pediatric diagnoses and child development is desirable. Candidates should possess excellent communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Candidates should be able to interact effectively with a diverse customer population and be self-directed in their approach to problem-solving. Experience working with patients in a medical setting and extensive knowledge of community resources are desirable.
License or Certification required by the Department: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) will also be considered. All licenses must be current with their respective Board and unrestricted.
