Salt Lake Community College Position Title: Social Work Field Coordinator/Community Outreach Ambassador (Part Time) Open Internally or Externally: External If faculty, tenure track status: Not Applicable Reports to (title): BHT Certificate Faculty Lead Department: Social Work Requisition Number: P24175 Position Type: New position Job Category: Staff FT/PT: Part-time Initial Work Location: Varies Starting Salary: $19.75-$30.00 Job Open Date: 02/22/2024 Job Close Date: Open Until Filled: Yes Priority Review Date: Job Summary: The Social Work (SW) program at Salt Lake Community College is seeking a part-time Internship Coordinator/Community Outreach Ambassador to establish and maintain service-learning and direct service internship placements. These placements will occur in the community for the newly created Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) certificate, the Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC) certificate, and the Social Work AS degree. This is a 12-month position with the potential for annual renewal, contingent on institutional funding. The position is currently funded for two (2) years with state grant funding.Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Under the direction of the BHT Certificate Faculty, the Internship Coordinator/Community Ambassador will collaborate with the Social Work program by interviewing and assessing students for service-learning preparedness. This part-time position requires 20 hours of work per week at various SLCC campuses and will also require scheduled travel to various organizations within the community. This position may occasionally require work outside of business hours to meet the needs of our students and community partners.
Collaborate and coordinate with the Social Work faculty members (including, at times, social work adjuncts), on all significant issues related to certificate completion, including the distribution of grant funding to meet coordinator/advising needs, and procedures for the coordination of field placements, etc.Meet regularly with the social work faculty, students and existing or potential community partners that can host social work students for internships and employment.Host Field Orientation and Completion events for social work students.Maintain a social work student internship file/record system.Review and monitor social work students' program eligibility and progress within field settings.Communicate with social work students regarding issues related to the field placement process, including interviews for placement opportunities, deadlines and reminders; student progress, status, probation, and dismissal; etc.Generate reports.Provide support for social work students, make referrals to College resources, etc.In coordination with the academic advising department, help advise social work students in course/semester planning such as course choices (based on transfer institution) and graduation requirements.Respond to email and phone messages in a timely manner (typically within one business day).Keep a log of work hours and activities.Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Associate of Science degree in Social Work or closely related field. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Social Work or closely related field. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The Internship Coordinator/Community Ambassador position is integral to the success of the newly created Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) certificate and requires a collaborative and supportive relationship with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Candidate must be organized, able to communicate clearly, and be willing to contribute to the vision and growth of the Social Work program to meet behavioral healthcare needs in creative and innovative ways that support the holistic well-being and growth of Salt Lake Community College's Social Work program.Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic backgrounds and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.Ability to learn and use computers and software, such as Canvas and Microsoft 365 (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Forms, etc.).Ability to learn information about the social work program, the College system and resources, etc. Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Special Instructions: SLCC Highlights: Salt Lake Community College is Utah's largest open-access college with the most diverse student body in the state.
