The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.The community of Silver City boasts various restaurants, arts, entertainment, cliff dwellings, festivals and much more. Visit Silver City to learn more.DescriptionUnder close supervision, assists with routine small and medium-sized Engineering projects including layout and design, specification development and preparation, new product evaluation, and data collection to support operations or the Engineering unit at assigned site.Assembles data and assists with problem-solving requiring basic theories and Engineering fundamentalsUtilizes computer programs to solve Engineering problemsAssists with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized Engineering projectsAssists with specification development or preparationAssists with technical evaluation of equipment and materialAssists in maintaining accurate and current project documentationMay perform as a member of a survey or GPS mapping crewPerforms other duties as requiredQualificationsMinimum QualificationsOne (1) year of experience in an Engineering or Technical area relevant to the assignmentKnowledge of specialized equipment, methods and techniques appropriate to assignment, including GIS/GPS mapping techniquesSkill in safely using, maintaining and repairing specialized equipment to complete assigned projectsAble to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautionsSkilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazardsPreferredHigh School diploma or GEDAptitude for computers and/or electronicsExperience with survey equipmentFAA UAS pilots license or willingness to complete course work and certificationAptitude for diagnosing mechanical and/or computer hardware equipmentExperience and proficiency in data validation and scientifc analysisCriteria/ConditionsAbility to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in EnglishAbility to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standardsMust be able to work in a potentially stressful environmentWork is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particlesWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platformsOccasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work dayMay be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operationPersonal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as requiredFreeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State LawsWhat We Offer YouThe estimated pay range for this role is currently$19.00 - $26.00/hour.This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
