At Berkshire Humane Society, we take seriously the "Society" part of our name. We're people working as a family for a nonprofit organization, not a corporation. We're all about community! Our main shelter is in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Our area is called the "Barkshires" by animal lovers, because it's a great place to explore the outdoors with a dog. The Appalachian Trail traverses our scenic Berkshire hills, an area as rich in cultural history as in natural beauty. Authors Herman Melville, Edith Wharton and Nathaniel Hawthorne lived in the area and other attractions include Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Clark Art Institute and Mass MoCa.
