Full job description Patient Service Advocate (PSA) Are you passionate about providing high-quality reproductive health and family planning services, including abortion care, to patients from within Colorado and across the United States? We seek an experienced customer-focused clinical team member who embraces a spirit of continual improvement and a relentless drive toward excellence to join our clinic team. Founded in 1973, Boulder Valley Health Center (BVHC) is a small outpatient community clinic that has been a leader in providing reproductive and sexual health services, abortion, and education to all people, including those who face barriers to accessing high-quality and equitable healthcare.
Our Patient Services Advocates (PSA) are responsible for ensuring high-quality services for our patients through a variety of customer and administrative duties essential to daily clinic operations. This 40-hour per-week position has a starting hourly rate of $20.00 ($22.00 if you are Spanish/English bilingual). Why work for BVHC? We support each other. Performs reception duties, including patient check-in, insurance verification, collecting and processing payments, and facilitating the completion of patient paperwork. Greets and attends to patients with professionalism both in person and over the phone. Schedules patient appointments. Evaluate daily schedules to optimize provider visits and minimize missed appointments. Provides broad support to the patient-facing operations team and medical records, patient referrals, patient advocacy, and funding, including coordinating abortion funding. Determines eligibility for cancer screening and other grant programs, including Title X and Women's Wellness Connection (WWC): enters and maintains patient data in appropriate tracking systems; reconciles and processes program billing and reimbursements. Verifies and updates patient information in Electronic Health Records (NextGen EHR). Ensures that medical records are organized, accurate, and complete. Manages follow-up system for patient referrals; provides patient reminders and manages incoming faxes and consults/referral records from outside clinics; ensures that patient needs are identified and addressed quickly. Serves as liaison between patients and medical staff. Promote positive communication with patients, clinicians, and peers. Maintain a safe work environment by: Applying the clinic's safety policies. Supporting the safety program by actively looking for opportunities to improve safety practices. Promptly reporting any safety concerns. Cooperate fully with Clinic Leadership to ensure excellent patient care, smooth scheduling, appropriate and consistent communication between functional areas, and collect, improve, and provide data and reports for operational and compliance needs. Other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications :
Required Ability to work any required clinic shifts Monday through Friday, 7:45 am – 5:15 pm, and Saturday, 8:00 am – 1:15 pm. Because we provide sexual and reproductive health care for every person and our patients span many identities of sex and gender, we expect our team to have fluency, familiarity, or an open desire to learn and use the language of inclusive, engaging, and relevant sexual health. 1+ years of customer service experience required. Excellent customer service and the ability to use compassion, empathy, and patience. Effective communication skills. Strong work ethic, attention to detail, adaptable with a proactive, self-directed work style. Ability to work as part of a team. Solid technology and computer skills. Strong commitment to reproductive freedom and an ability to demonstrate knowledge and passion for social justice. Strong work ethic and a proactive, self-directed work style. Thrives in a team environment. Can critically think and problem-solve for patients' best interests. Excels in a fast-paced environment. Preferred EHR experience (NextGen a plus). Experience working in a healthcare setting (reproductive and sexual health a plus!). Experience working with folks from marginalized communities. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Work Environment Requirements and Physical Activities: Ability to hear adequately in person and by phone, in personal and group settings.
Ability to reach for, move, and lift 20 pounds and use your arms and hands to handle or move objects and to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, climbing stairs, or using an elevator with reasonable accommodation.
