Job Summary
The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining the good health of the IT resources used by the company and its clients, which includes host infrastructure platforms, servers, networks, maintaining and monitoring end-user workstation functionality including software installation, end-user support and training tasks to ensure end-user workstations and network performance meet company and user requirements. These duties will be in support of Southeastern Underwriters, or the clients supported by Steamboat Insurance Group or one of its entities which are geographically dispersed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Networked Infrastructure Management:
· Monitor and maintain data communications network as needed and resolve problems
· Ensure that all network resources are available during production hours; log and communicate issues with appropriate managers
· Maintain documentation concerning access to shared network resources, storage appropriation from the SAN through to the servers\systems, IP address management, procedures, checklists, knowledgebase articles and infrastructure diagrams and changes
· Create scripts to handle automation of routine administrative duties so that helpdesk and tier 1 support personnel can more effectively accomplish routine tasks
· Maintain the Active Directory multi-site infrastructure, DNS, DHCP configuration, and AD backups
· Private Cloud – Assist in support all facets of a multi-site Hyper-V infrastructure to include:
o Management of Hyper-V farm host platforms on a day-to-day basis
o Management of SAN resources
o Apply upgrades to the Hyper-V farm host platforms when available
o Monitor performance of Hyper-V farm hosts and virtual servers
o Deploy and reconfigure virtual hosts as needed to support infrastructure as required
o Routine maintenance of infrastructure through the use of snapshots, replication, etc.
Network Security
· Clustered firewall configuration and management for multiple telecom carrier routes for the datacenter, remote offices, and the DR site
· Maintain and support network connected devices as needed
· Ensure proper communication of log information between the network security devices and the central SIEM
· Responsible for systems maintenance and updates, including the use of automated patch deployment and security management systems
· Apply security changes to all areas of the environment in collaboration with Information Security.
Application Support
· Assist in maintaining infrastructure critical applications running on multiple servers handling NFS, SFTP Services and Web Services
· Work with application providers to perform upgrades of onsite applications such Windows, MS Exchange/Office365
· Maintain server-side applications used for web sites, virus protection, and messaging
Disaster Recovery
· Assist in maintaining disaster recovery related applications handling offsite file sync, data backups, and inventory cataloging
· Ensure daily operation of system backup applications supporting disaster recovery using applications such as Hyper-V Replication, VEEAM and other 3rd party replication apps
· Perform routine tests of the DR site to ensure proper operability and failover on demand
Monitoring and Health Checks
· Accomplish daily\weekly health checks on the IT infrastructure and resolve any issues before causing an outage
· Monitor and maintain messaging infrastructure to ensure messaging related services are not interrupted, including MS Exchange / Office 365
· Will be required to share in on-call response to issues from monitoring
Research and Planning:
· Research and recommended enhancements to infrastructure
· Work with the IT team to keep the infrastructure on the cutting edge of technology and maximize the TCO for all technology
· Define bottlenecks in the infrastructure and methods for mitigation
Website Infrastructure Maintenance:
· Assist in maintaining the core web servers running IIS
· Assist in maintaining and configure servers to support custom developed applications
Workstation | Help Desk
· Monitor, respond to and update/close work orders, calls and tickets assigned to the help desk
· Troubleshoot computer problems, determine source, and advise on appropriate action.
· Administer end-user workstations and supports end-user activities
· Investigate user problems, identify source, determine solutions, test and implement solutions
· Install, configure and maintain personal computers, networks, workstations, file servers, network cabling, VOIP telephone system and other related equipment, devices and systems
· Add/upgrade and configure disk drives, printers and related equipment
· Perform and/or oversee software and application installation and upgrades
· Maintain site licenses for department/organization
· On-call support & problem resolution after hours
· Ensure that all newly ordered equipment is received and installed in a timely manner
· Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in information systems/technology or related field and at least three years of experience as a system engineer, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Operating Systems: The ability to completely configure and maintain platforms of various operating system versions: Windows Server 2019, Windows 10, 11 .
· Networking: Connecting multiple VLANs across a single link to a Hyper-V host or switch.
· Wireless: Multi access point wireless infrastructure in a VLAN environment.
· Firewall management, exposure a plus; Cisco Meraki or Palo Alto devices.
· End User Applications: Skill in use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.
· Must be willing and able to learn and adapt to new technologies with limited guidance.
· Website Systems: Understanding of the Internet domain naming structure and maintaining certificates, public DNS entries, and domain registrations
· System Engineering Automation: Experience with automation of routine administrative duties through VB scripting, PowerShell, Python, C#, or some other language a plus
· Use of MS Scheduler to automate Windows functions
· Proficient in aspects of infrastructure / desktop hardware and able to work effectively with little or no supervision
